The unique invitations issued we.e an assurance of something new and original. The guests were met in the hall by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. E. T. Wilkins, who conducted them to the punch bowl, presided over by Miss Simms. The decorations here were numerous Hags artistically arranged. From the dining room by Mrs. Geo. Brown. In this room there floated red, white and blue ribbons among many “stars and stripes.” From the chandelier hung a basket filled with national colored boom crackers. It was after a tempting salad course that each was asked to “pop a crack er” and decorate herself with the con tents. After many booms everyone wore a gorgeous tissue paper cap and whistles and rattles were sounded. This proved the merriest part of the evening. When quiet reigned, cake and colored ices surmounted by flag pins (souvenirs of the evening) were served, after which all departed for home feeling “a merry heart goes away.” The guests were: Mesdames W. Crutchfield, of the Crutchfleld- Tolleson company in Spartanburg, was in the city yesterday on business for his house. A TRAGIC DEATH. Marion Amos is Scalded to Death at Jonesville. The sad news reached the city Thursday evening, too late for our last issue, of the tragic death of Mr. Marion Amos in Jonesville.
