Saturday at high noon the hand some parlors of Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Fort’s residence on Robinson street were decked with festal garlands and presented.a scene of gayetyjand loveli ness that betokened a happy event— the occasion being the marriage of Miss Francis Fort to Mr. William Harley Chadwick. The nuptial rites were performed by Rev J. M. Stead man, pastor of the Buford Street Methodist church, in the presence of ! the immediate relatives and a few of the close friends and admirers of the bride and groom. The three large parlors, beautifully and tastefully decorated with stately palms and ferns aud exuqisite cut flowers, were thrown into one for the happy occasion, and filled with lovely women and handsome men—the elite of Gaffney—all resplendent in silks and jewels and holiday attire, they formed a beautiful picture of which 'the handsome bridal couple was an appropriate setting. The ceremony was an impressive one and the sol emn words which joined for life two human souls were spoken with such gentle grace and tender pathos that the hearts of young and old alike were touched. The occasion was likewise the twen ty-fifth anniversary of the marriage of the bride’s parents, and the cele bration of their silver wedding was olso combined with the nuptial fes tivities. After the ceremony a sump tuous and elegant dinner was par taken of by the wedding party. The table was loaded with all kinds of delnacies and some of the choicest viands known to the culinary art; here, too, rich flowers abounded in luxuriant beauty, shedding their dainty perfume over the merry ban queters—everything conspiring to form a scene that was almost regal in its splendor—a scene that would have afforded inspiration for a poet’s pen, and oce befitting in every way the happy yet solemn occasion for which it was designed and arranged. The bride ie the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs, William A. Fort, of this city. She is one of Gaffney’s most popular young ladies, of the highest type of culture and refinement, mod est and maidenly, possessed of ele gant personal charms, with a face so lovely, so full of gentle grace, speak ing of sunshine in the heart—winsome in manner and extremely social by nature, it is little wonder that she was admired by everyone who knew her. fllorhed in a rich and handsome going-away guwa of the fashicuuble gun-motal shade over taffeta, with gloves and imported hat to match, and a superb bouquet of carnations and ferns in her hand, she formed a picture as fresh and lovely as a morn ing in spring, and as such she was i given by ber father into the keeping of the man of her choice. The gr>om is a member of the Chadwick family of England and a descendant of Sir Andrew Chadwick who was knighted by Queen Mary. He is in the printing and dyeing bus iness, in which industry his family have been engaged for generations, his father having had the honor of being eomjnanded to print for Wind sor Castle in England. Mr. Chad wick’s brothers and other kinsmen are the leading printers of the New England States, and he, himself, has superintended some of the largest; plants in Great Britain and Canada, j He is a young man of commanding | appearance aud gentlemanly deport-1 meet and enjoys the high regard of j numerous friends here and abroad. Sam L. Fort, brother of the bride, i came over from Clemson College and filled the position cf the groom’s! “best man,” while the wedding march was beautifully and artistically play ed by Prof. G. Fryatt Mountford, di rector of music at Limestone College, and an English friend of the groom. The invited attendants were : Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Poole, of Pacolet Mills; Mrs. Harvey Smith, of Ches ter ; Sam L. Fort, of Clemson College ; Mrs. O. A. Osborne, of Blacksburg; Mr. and Mrs. J. C.Jefferies, Col. S. Jef feries, Dr. C. A. Jefferies, F. G. Stacy D. C. Ross, Maynard Smyth, Chas Hames, Ed H. DeCamp, J. Emile Harley, Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Stead man, Prof. G. Fryatt Mountford, of Gaffney.
