He was n! Thiekety, the home of Ms aged and respected father, doing what he could in his feeble way to make the last hours of his venerable pa rent as pleasant as possible. Fur' some time Mr. Samuel Littlejohn has been quite sick and very often during his illness has his son been absent from the city watching and admin istering to his father. The com munity was not shocked when it learned of Mr. Littlejohn’s death. It was prepared for ifr and had been.ex pecting it for some days. On Mom-. day night Ma soul took Its flight to that bourn from which no traveller ere returns. The end was calm and peaceful as if one falling into sleep. Gathered around the couch of the ‘dying man were his household. Mr. Littlejohn was in his nieety* first year, being ninety years old Jaw May. Ho was born within two miles of the place where he died. He had lived in the community all his lif*. A quiet unassuming business farmer he was. He never aspired to any thing else. Indeed he thought, and truly so, that his calling was the noblest of all oacupstions. Ones he was elected fro the legislature. Hie record there was not what might be termed of the meteoric kind. It was plain, simple, honest. What better record could mortal man make. He was always liked and respected by those who liked and respected men of character. Mr. Littlejohn was married twice. To him ten cbildrea were ho»a among whom is the present mayor of Gaffney. By industry and perso- reranee he accumulated considerable property and was regarded as a man of means. The funeral took place Tuesday af ternoon at the old homestead. Many there were who paid tribute to the departed. The remains were in terred in the old family burying ground and all returned to thulr hemes with sorraw, yefc with a new lessen learned from an ol**, old slAag of frhe life of a good citizen. May hie seal veafr in peaae. • „ -a _ . Death of Mrs. Duff. Mrs. J. C. H. Duff, of Mooresboro, N. C., died at the home of her son in Blacksburg, to which place she had gone to nurse her sick boy, last Thurs- duy. The cause of death was attribu ted to typhoid pneumonia. Mrs. Duff was well and favorably known to many of Cherokee county’s citizens, having resided for some time in Gaft, ney. She leaves a large family to mourn her departure. The remans were brought to Gaff ney and interred at Limestone Ceme tery Friday. The funeral took pises at frhe Presbyterian church, Rev. C. E. Robertson, the pastor, officiating. Death of a Child. The two and a half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Andrews, of John son, S. C., died at the home of Mr. W. H. Pearson, in this city, last Fri day night, the little fellow had been a sufferer from indigestion for a long while and his parents hod been to Western North Caralina with him in the vain hope that his health would be improved. They were on their way home jand had stopped here to visit Mr. Pearson’s family when their child became worse and died. The remains were Interred at Limestone Cem- tery Saturday. Rev. B. P. Robertson conducted the funeral.
