Sarratt and is now serving the patrons of that establishment. Mr. Thompson Robbs’ new brick residence is nearing completion. When finished it will be one of the prettiest houses in the city. H. C. Knox has moved his barber shop into the Lipscomb Hotel build ing while the erection of Mr. J. D. Goudlock’s new brick block is going on. Mr. J. D. Gomlloek has moved his stock of goods to tiie A. X. Wood building, formerly occupied by C. A, 1 Wood, until the contractors have eomploJud his now store. Messrs. Carroll it Carpenter will Itave their annual display of Fall and Winter dress goods and millinery to day and to-morrow. This is always an event in mercantile circles in this city. Mr. G. W. Byars has been confined to his home with an attack of slow fever for several weeks. At last re ports he was improving slowly. We will be glad to note his ultimate re covery. The Gaffney Carpet Mill is now in full operation. The company is! building several additional cottages for their operatives. They have erected a nice fence around the premises and everything at the mill has un air of business about it. The Cherokee Drug Co., have pur- j chased the stock of the DuPre Drug Co., and have moved into tfie stand | lately occupied by Mr. DuPre, from : which point they will continue their | business. The sale was made last ! week and the move took, place Tues-, day. The Ledger is now in its new quar ters next to the postoffice. We have a handsome home and all our friends i are welcome to visit us. Another New Enterprise. For some time there has been talk of a machine shop and foundry for Gaffney. It was only this week how ever, that the matter took definite shape. Messrs T. H. Littlejohn, J. D. Templeton and B. T. Porter have formed a co-partnership under the firm name of The Gaffney Machine Shop and will conduct a business of the character indicated. For the present they will occupy the building in the rear of the Pearl Steam Laun dry. They will equip themselves to do all manner of repairing of machin ery, make castings and do a general machine shop and foundry business. Kison, manager of the Company store, returned to the city last week from northern markets where he went to purchase the fall and winter stock for Iuh store. Oa the trip lie was accompanied by Miss Carrie Peden, the accomplished mil liner of the Company store, who made the selections for that depart ment. Mr. B. F. Gaffney, of Henrietta, X. C.. spent several days in the city this week with relatives and friends. He was accompanied by Bis little'Hon. Mr. Gaffney returned home yester day. J. S. Harman, of Pine Grove, was in the city Friday on business. He paid his respects to The Ledger wiiilc Loro Mr. Frank F. Whilden, of Charles ton, field secretary of the South Caroline Sunday School Association, was in the city several days last week. Mr. Whilden is one of the foremost Sunday School workers in the State and is doing valient work for the cause. Mr. Hiram Yarborough, of Cross Anchor, is now with The Ledger. He came up last week and will assist in looking after the business of the paper. Mr. Walter Baker left Friday for Ashville, where he went recreating. He came home the first of the week. A. A. King, the hustling and energetic salesman of the Gaffney Carpet Maunfacturing Company, was in the city last Saturday. Mr. King is an ideal salesman and is keeping the company hustling to fill the orders he is booking. Mr. J. I). Kennedy, of theChero- Kee Inn, was in the city Friday on business. Mias Sallie Jefferias is in the city after a visit to Spartanburg. She returned lust week. Mr. David Cline, father of Gillard Cline, was in the city Monday. Mr. Cline resides at Blacksburg, and is one of Cherokee’s worthy citizeds. Mrs. T. M. Creech, of Chester, is visiting her son, Rev. S. T. Creech, on Grenard street. Rev. F. C. Felmet, of Clifton, accompanied by his son-in-law, Mr. Hancock, was in the city Friday. Alderman L. Baker returned to the city Saturday after a sojourn in Western North Carolina, Rev. J. P. Scruggs, Of Cullman, Ala., one time a resident of this sec tion, is visiting in the city, tbegucst of Mr. Charley Scruggs. Mr. J. P. Morgan, of Clifton, was in the city Saturday on » visit to his friends Mr. John F. The Union Meeting. 1 The union meeting at the court house for the past ten days has been fairly well attended. The different ministers of the city have been taking it time about in conducting the ser vices. Last Sunday morning the auditorium was well filled. Rev. B. P. Robertson preached a good sermon. In the evening Rev. C. E. Robertson preached on instability. Revs. Dent, Creech. Hickson and Bridges have been assisting in the services. The meetings will close Friday night. A NEW TRIUMPH.
