The prim reaper got in his horrible work in this place the past week. The mortality was greater for the week than for any previous week, in the history of the place: The community was immeasurably saddened Monday at the announce ment of the death of Mrs. Mollie Camp, the estimable wife of our hon ored and respected chief of police, B. F. Camp. Mrs. Camp had been sick but a few days and her death was en tirely unexpected. The immediate cause of death was heart failure. Deceased had suffered for some time with an eflection of the heart, due to her being very fleshy. Mrs. Camp was a Miss Pennington, and was a native of Arkansas, rfhe came to this county about a year after her marriage to Mr. Camp in 187!). She was in her forty-fourth year. She was a consistent member of Providence Baptist church and had been since her removal to this country. Mrs. Camp leaves a sorrowing hus band and four children to mourn her death. There had been eight chil dren to bless the union but four had departed. The burial took place Tuesday at noon at Providence. Itev. \Y. T. Thompson conducting the service. The regular funeral service will be held at Providence next Sabbath by the pastor, Rev. F. C. Hickson. The remains were accompanied to their lust resting place by a large concourse of sympathizing friends and grieved relatives. The pull bearers were: L. G. Byars, W. A. Turner. C. T. Lipscomb. J. A. Galf- ney, W. \V. Gaffney and Claude McArthur. Opposite Postoffice. M Is tfiae. Hufei .irumi.t. g| THE COUNTY CAMPAIGN. It Will Open One Week From To-D*y »t Owens’ Ford. One week from today, at Owens’ Ford, the county campaign will be inaugurated. On the same day the candidates for Congress in this, the Fifth Congressional District, will ad dress the voters of Blacksburg and vicinity. On the following day the candidates for Congress will hold forth in Gaffney at the court house. The speaking will take place at 11 o'clock. The candidates will be al lowed abundant time to address the people on national politics and some of the best speeches ever heard in this section may be expected on that day. There is some good ma terial in the candidates and all who avail themselves of this opportunity to hear them will be well paid for their trouble. On Saturday the county campaign will be continued at Mabry's Mill. Candidates Barber, Finley and Pol lock, and perhaps others for Congress, will also attend this meeting. The prohibitionists will have a speaker at each campaign. This speaker will be allowed the same time that is allowed candidates. The schedule of the speakers in the in terest of Prohibition will be found in another column. - • — A Daring Robber. On last Monday night, thieves entered the store of Mr. T. Davenport and rubbed his cash drawer of about seventy-live dollars. How the thieves managed to gain entrance to his store is a mystery, for the back door was fastened with a bolt and also bad an axe propped against it for extra support, upon examination the door was found to be in good order and showed no signs of having been forced, the bolt was carefully laid aside and the axe standing in a nearby corner thereby making it impossible for the thief to have entered from the out side. Mr. Jfavenport is of the opinion that whoever did it had secreted him self in the store that night and when all was quiet, forced the drawer and took the money. Gaffney is getting more than her share of this kind of businrss of late and our city fathers should now see the importance cf a night watchman to protect the in terests of our citizens. Mr. W. J. McGill and Miss Gilly J. Darwin, of the Kingi Creek neighbor hood in this county, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony Wednes day, July 27th, by the K»v. J. H. Thacker, assisted by Rev. J. P. Knox. The ceremony was witnessed by a number of the friends and relatives j of the contracting parties. Mr. Camp was in his fifty-fourth year. He had served his community as magistrate for a number of years, was a well-to-do farmer and generally regarded as u good citizen, He de parted this life without leaving an enemy. Deceased leaves a wife and seven children. The funeral services were held at the late residence ol de ceased Monday, Rev. R. J. Tate officiating. Interment took place at State Line cemetery Monday in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. i Friend The duath angel visited the homes of several of our citizens during the week and robbed them of some pre cious jewels. Mr. and Mrs. Loft- house were deprived of some joy and happiness in the loss of their eigh teen months old child which occurred Tuesday night about eight o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Phillips lost their two-year-old child Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bridges Black had the misfortune to lose their infant Monday. Each one of the sorrow stricken families have the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. Resolutions of Condolence. At the regular communication of the Grand Lodge, No. 186, Ancient Free Masons, held Monday evening, August 1st, 181)8, the following reso lution was adopted: “Having heard with great sorrow of the death of the estimable wife of our Senior Warden, Brother B. F. Camp, bo it Resolved that Granard Lodge, No. 18G A. F.
