Tbe separate coach law takes effect in this# State September 1st; after that date the railroads will b< obliged to run separate coaches for colored people on all trains. We are indebted to our friend John Gaffney for a delicious watermelon, which he presented to us yesterday. It was one of the best we have had the pleasure of eating this season. Rev. Mr. Loyeless, of Spartanburg, will occupy the pulpit of the First Methodist Church next Sabbath. The pastor, Rev. Mr. Dent, will be at Campobella, where he goes to as sist, the Rev. S. A. Nettles in a series of meetings. Miss Kate Folgergave an “at home” party last Friday night and enter tained a few of her friends in a most royal manner. The party was given in honor of Miss Viola Runyon, a charming young lady of Easley, who is visiting her. Remember, if you wish to vote in the approaching Democratic Primary it will be necessary to enroll your name on the club role of the precinct at which you vote at least five days before the primary. It will not do to enroll on any other club roll except the one of the precinct at which you vote. If your precinct has no club roll make it your business to see that one is opened. —• ■ 4* “ • — —— Farmers’ Institute at Clemson. A Farmers’ Institute will be held at Clemson College, from August 8:h to 15th. A course of lectures on agricultural and scientific topics will be delivered by the professors of the college. Distinguished visitors from abroad will make occasional addresses. The leading railway systems have offered reduced rates. If the presi dent of the college Is notified in advance, hacks will meet the trains at Calhoun and Chrery’s. Board and lodging will be furnished for fifty cents per day. The beds are not provided with sheets. Visitors are expected to bring sheets and towels. Ladies will not be recived in the barracks. A limited number cun be provided for at the hotel. A cordial invitation is extended to the public to attend the institute. Protracted Meeting at Providence. The protracted meeting at Provi dence will commenca next Sunday. Pastor Hickson always has interesting meetings. He Is one of the ablesi preachers in this section, and he has few equals abroad. The people always look forward with Interest to the meeting at Providence. Tho point of dissimilarity is of course the separation of North and South is lands iutojtwo. ft is easy, however, to see that if th4*»e two islands were some what raised they would become one and would then even more rcserablo the Italian peninsula than they do now. A comparison of the islands of Ireland and Sardinia will also show several points of resemblance, but this is noth ing like so striking as it is in the case of the two widely separated portions of tbe world above mentioned.
