Yours Truly, J. R. Meson & Co., It Has Been a Most Pronounced Suc cess. The meeting at the First Metho dist church was brought to u close last Tuesday night. The past week bus been a memorable one in Gaffney. Mr. SchoolHeld came hero finding contention ami discord not only among the citizens of the town but in the very church in which he lab ored. Ho goes away, leaving the people of the town in closer touch with each other and the breech in the church healed. That hi* has done a great deal for Gaffney no one will attempt to deny and all fool better for his having been here. The meeting Sunday morning and afternoon will long bo remembered litre. Stout-hearted men and tender hearted women were brought to a realization of their sins and announ ced their intention of endeavoring to live better lives. Men in whom we thought there was no guile confessed their sins and went to those whom they hud offend ed and begged forgiveness and re newed their friendship. We could not understand the meaning of it all; we did not attempt to solve the problem, but stood in wonder and amazement at the won derful effects of the teaching of this wonderful prodaimer of the Word. Bf The closing meeting was one of the i’entacostal order and many accepted the faith at the eleventh hour. Messrs. Schoolfield and Van I’elt left on the early morning train yes terday. A largo number went to the depot to bid them good-bye. Mr. SchooibeM and Van Pelt will retain a warm place in the hearts of many of the citizens of Gaffney as long as they live. HOW TO FIHD OOT. General Walker has issued the fol lowing circular orders No. -9, from Charleston, in reference to the reun ion ut Greenville; I. The annual reunion for 1897 of this Divison will be held at Green ville, S. ('., commencing at 1(J a. m. August 2*)th. The low rate of 1 cent per mile, which will be given from all points within the State, will al low a large attendance of delegates. All comrades of the Divison are earn estly invited to be present. Whether delegates or not, they have a right to In* in the convention. Confederate Veterans who have not yet joined the U. 0. V*. are cordially asked to join their former comrades in this grand reunion. The division now has nearly one hundred eflmps, and this reunion >s apt to be the largest ever held of ex- Confederates in this .State. The good people of Greenville are making every arrangement for the en tertainment of the Veterans, and we can be sure of the most hospitable and loving reception and care. II. Kach camp will appoint one young lady as sponsor, whose duties and place at the reunion will be desig nated in subsequent orders. HI. Dlth, under direction of the County Superintend ents of Education, an entrance ex amination for students, male and fe male, who may wish to enter the South Carolina College. This is done foy the convenience of the students, to save time and ex pense. and above all to give opportu nity to any applicants who may fail to pass any part of the examination to review such study during the month of December, and to try the examination at the College, Septem ber 28-29, when the usual entrance examinations are held. This plan promises to be a great convenience to the patrons of the Coliege, and a great aid to backward students, enabling them.to take^d- vuntage really of two entrance ex aminations, with an interval to study up on any branch in which they may De deficient. Tho applicants will be informed by the 2Gth of August how they have passed, and what they need to study further, and will be advised on all matters relative to their expected entrance Into tho College. At the same time and places com petitive examinations will be held for Normal Scholarships, two of which are awarded in each county of the state. These carry with them the remission of fees to the amount of -foO. Whose Pigeon is This? Mr. II. S. Sellers, of Fine Grove, eight miles east of Gaffney, informs The Lkdukk of a homoing pigeon which came to his house Tuesday July 13th inst. The description is as follows: Two feathers on right wing stamped “John Tipton, 2*»11 East York St., Phila.," left wing “1(5170;" silver band right leg mar ked “T. 1(5170,” and a small smoothe brass band around left leg. He says it was very poor when it first came to his house but is fat now. Owner can have pigeon if wanted.
