She has taken tho Initial steps to great advancement—to secure an outlet, by way of rail, that has bet n closed to her. Her citizens have been forced to patronize one road, but there is assurance of the Ohio River and Charleston Railway Company extend ing its line from Blacksburg, by way of Cherokee, to this place. A most enthusiastic and harmo nious meeting was held last Friday night in Woods’ Hull, and Mr. D. A. Thomas was made chairman and Col. Thos. B. Butler, secretary. Dr. J. G. Black and Superintendant Tripp, of the O. R. A C. It. R., were present and explained what tho road would do if Gaffney would lend a willing hand. Dr. Black and Mayor Wood showing them tho necessary amount of money could ho raised by a volun tary tax assessment, on all taxable property in town, according to the last tax return. That is 10 per centum of all taxable property. To be plainer, a tax-payer who pays taxes on $100.00 worth of property wou'd he asked—not required—to contribute $i.U0 to building a road bed from Gaffney to Cherokee Ford; and every man asked to pay at the same ratio, according to his property. Ravensa, S. C., June 15.—One of our villagers went to Pacolet Mills to see his girl—ho says on business. On his return he fourd the creek swollen, a big rain having fallen, and no foot-log. He hired an old colored man to bear him over on his back, but his bigness overbalanced Uncle Burt, who staggered and let him down headforemost into the raging billows. He argues now against im mersions and night meetings, and says Supervisor Leonard ought to have good foot-logs over every public unbridged stream. \ V „.
