Boyd, the former pastor of the Methodist church in this city, but now of Facolct, was in the city several days this week. Mr. Boyd lias a large circle of friends here who always have a hearty welcome for him. J. G. Spencer, the hustler, and his advance agent, George Estos, col., left for Tennessee yesterday to buy stock to replenish the stable of Mr. Spencer. J. G. may be expected to bring back a good lot of stock with him. Dr. W. C. Hamrick, of the Com pany store, arrived from the North Tuesday. Robt Foole lias been iu Charlotte on a visit to his brother Will several days this week. W. B. Green, of Boiling springs was in the city Thursday last on business. *J. F. Robbs, of Grassy pond was in the city Saturday on business. Mr. Robb 1 * is one of the oldest Lkiickkitks on the list, although lie is a eompar- tively yong man. J. E. Foster, of Asbury, was among the visitors in the city Friday. Boyd Haines was summoned home Friday on account of the death of his grandmother, Mrs. McWhirter. Miss Annie Torrence lias returned to her home in the qiiieen City after a stay of several weeks in the Lime stone City. J. E. Hockuday, route agent of the Southern Express Company, spent a couple of days in the city last week. Richardson have resigned as In- tendant and Warden, respectively, of the town council of Gaffney, S. C. After a conference between J. (,}. Little and N. II. Littlejohn yesterday afternoon it was mutually agreed for Mr. Littlejohn t > resign and Mr. Little to withdraw and allow some one else to he elected to fill tho posi tion of mayor. This was not agreed on until after Tut: Lt:!>';::i: had gone to pres-. Messrs. Littlejohn and Little adopted 1 his coMrso after mature consideration. They both thought it would he llie best policy to advance the interests of Gaffney. This is n patriotic move on tho part of both Mr. LUtleiidin and Mr. Little. They both make concessions for which they should lie commended. They both do this in order that the best interests of Gaffney might bo subserved. Tut: Lkhuku does not compliment these gentlemen upon their action to incur their favor, as some may think, but because it is broad-minded and generous enough to concede that even if a man acts indecent towards it he may do so in a passion caused by misrepresentnth^i and yet have the courage to do a manly act.
