THE WEEKLY LEDGER: GAFFNEY, S. C., SEPTEMBER 2G, 1895. THE LITTLE ONES Are the joy and sunlight of our homes. Use all care to keep the little ones in health. Do not give them nauseous doses. You can overcome their troubles with Dr. King’s Royal Germetuer. They all like to take it because it does not taste like a medicine, but like a lemonade. It cures colic in young children, overcomes all bowel troubles, gives good digestion, and quiet, healthful sleep. As a tonic for weak children and as a remedy for use in teething, it is the greatest in the world. TRANSYLVANIA NEWS. t^Sold by Druggists, new package, large bottle, 108 Doses, One Dollar. C., Sept. 21.— I Wo were in Brevard Saturday and ! saw the cars run in for the first time on the Hendersonville efc Bre-I | yard railroad. The road is comple- ! i ted except putting in u few cross i | lies. Nearly every one in town ran | ‘ out to see the locomotive coming ! i over the new road. As its not a na tive of this section it was somewhat amusing to behold. (i. W. Vanderbilt is trying to buy | this county it seems. We hope he | will get land enough to build upon. Its reported that it will take two ' years yet to complete his dwelling. Last Sunday night at prayer-meet ing .lack Moody knocked Fidell McCall down, striking him under the eyes with knacks, it is supposed, and making an ugly knot. We would like to have a bushel or j two of shelled cat fish from your state we can’t raise them here. The people have began to haul the cabbage crop to Greenville and upper Carolina. We can hear the squirrels harking nearly every morning. As W. T. JI. of your county is an expert hunter we would be pleased to have him up here to go hunting w'th us. lie could sure bring them in. He might kill a deer too, come W. T. The Ledger is now a dandy. We didn’t think we could do without it before it was enlarged and now we know we can’t. We think the editor is the right man in the right place. We rather receive it than a personal letter. In reply to Bro. Hermit’s inquiry, will say we have rot dwindled out of existance if we do get (as the negroes catfish.) swunk occasionally, it dont take us long to revive up again. However we are at our best about now for we pull ICO net. That’s not on a dwindle much. Bro. Hermit pulls 200 of course, hut about f)0 of that is imagination, so if he begins to dwindle it won’t he long until he will he one among the ghosts of an un known region. George Bishop married his dead brother \ wife last Sunday. She has two chil Iren. They start today for Greonvil/e. Vacation’s come at last and we arc pulling fodder. We can’t go hack on Index to New Advestisements. The following are the changes in our ad columns. It will he noted that besides several changes there are a number of entirely new ads. Germany heads the list with 1,202,132,074 gallons, an increase of 34,000,000 over 1802, the consumption being 33 gallons per head, ranging from 02 gallons in Bavaria to 12 gallons in Tothringen; Great Britian second, 1,105,752,000 gallons, or 30 gallons per head; America, including the whole of the western hemisphere, is third, with more than a billion gallons, or 16 gal lons per head. The total for the world, not including Asia and Africa, is 4,500,- 000,000 gallons, requiring 7,270,000 tons of malt and 82,000 tons of hops. Victims of Alcohol. Just outside the city of Chicago 8,000 men are engaged in digging the big Chicago drainage canal. The local town officials have licensed 28 saloons for their especial benefit, on the ground that the saloon “is the only door open ing to the man who drops his x>ick after six days of the most arduous toil under the sun. ” It is said that already these saloons have been responsible for 12 murders committed by the men.—Ex change. Ths Workingman's Foe. Wo have seen that the laboring man has no enemy so tyrannical or so piti less us the liquor traffic; that no legis lation or any change of sociological con ditions can bo of any permanent benefit to the laboring classes of the world ho long as $900,000,000 a year is wasted in intoxicating drinks.—Rev. Dr. Banks. • • Marvelous Results. j From a letter written by Rev.
