Tite coroner held an inquest .yester day. ami the verdict was that Fisher ami Durham e-ino to their deaths by gunshot wounds at the hands of par ties unknown to the jury. The consta bles refused to give testimony and there were no other witnesses. It is believed that Fisher and Durham did not lire at all. C., July I.—J. D. Lew is. a conductor on the Charleston, Knoxville and Western railroad, shot his brother-in-law, Henry kutledge, Saturday night. Kutledge will proba bly die. The shooting took place at Ki*ledge’s bouse, and was the result of an old trouble in which one or more women wen- at the bottom of it, Lewis having married the sister of Kutledge. Atlanta, Jvly 4.—The railroads de clined to make any deduction in the rates on peaches shipped in refrigera tor cars and the Fruit Growers Associa tion of Georgia announces that it will appeal to the interstate commerce com mission. The fruit growers made a case last week before the Georgia rail road commission, and the case was argued before that body. It, however, had no authority’ to enforce any ruling on interstate business and all it could do was to make a recommendation that the rates be reduced. The rail road men said that they could not af ford to give the rates and careful ser vice to fruit demand and the si uppers for no less rates than they have been charging. Ckntkk, Ala., July 4.—About mid night yesterday a fire was discovered in the rear offices of the court house and the entire building was soon in Humes. Kerosene had been poured on tho walls and iloor and nothing could cheek the fire. The books and records of the chancery court, sheriff and lax assessor are lost. It is thought that the vaults in the probate and clerk's of fice are all right. A heavy rain saved the main part of the town. Loss about sMO.OOO with insurance on building of §7,000. C., July 1*—Awhile farmer, named Sims, was at wonk in his field near Huntersville, sixteen miles from here Saturday afternoon, when some boys passing called to him saying to him something which lie con strued as an insult. He became angry and made toward them, when one of them told him that they nu ant no harm. Upon what he considered a second of fence, he drew his pistol and fired kill ing one of the boys. He then went to ward the house, and found his wife going to the scene. He overtook her in a field and shot her in the body, then putting his pistol to her temple blew her brains out.
