Drowning lost a‘couple of hogs the past week by some mi.-cre- ant or miscreants feeding them on glass. The lirst one died Saturday night and he had it cut open and found glass in its stomach. It's a mighty low principled person who would feed glass to a dumb animal. Liza Alexander, a well-known colored woman, died at her home in this city last Friday night of cancer. She had been sulTering about six months from the trouble. She was quite a favorite with her associates and will he missed from the circle, as it is said she was a woman of good and kind disposition, always ready to render assistance to any whom she could. At Limestone Monday Night. There will be an entertainment at Limestone on Monday night for the benefit of 1 hat institution, given by the celebrated Swedish Duartette Concert Company, This company is composed of native Swedes, each a. star in his or her line, all thorough musicians. This will he a rare treat and fully worth twice the money. See what our neighbors say about them. The Swedish (Quartette Concert Company paid Columbia a visit last night being their second appearance here this season. These sweet voiced singers cannot come too often; for music such as they make is seldom heard, and in listening to such mel ody no car would ever grow tired. The voices of the quartette sounded as though they were made to harmo nize together. Sweet, incomparably sweet, was this singing. These gen tlemen succeeded in making such nn< icily as to disarm criticism. Their sing.ng touched the soul and breath ed the spirit of music.—The State. The quartette is one of the strong est and most artistic musical attrac tions that has ever appeared in Charleston. The singing was of a very high order their voice blending together in rich and splendid har mony. Their imitation banjo ac companiment was received with storms of applause.—News and Cou rier. The following letter has been re ceived by \\\ IL Dul’re: WiM.lamston, S. C., April 2. ’'Jo. I happened to learn that you will have the Swedish Quartette in your town, and I cannot persuade myself to refrain from congratulating you. We have had them twice this season ami we could not have been more de lighted. I do not believe there is anything better. Very sincerely.
