Many a man’s idea of charity is to give unto others tho advice he can’t use himself. Holy roller who let a snake bite him to test his faith, did a little holy roll ing afterwards. The man who boasts of his family tree is seldom the one to saw wood ' and say nothing. . It’s easy enough 4o bear other peo ple’s burdens. They are always so mdch lighter than ours. About the worst start a couple can make on the s<a of matrimony is to “charge” the wedding ring. EXTERNAL BOOTLEG. — Now they’re making bo<£e from iodine, but it isn't deadly if used as iodine. When a woman attempts to drive a nail, she ought to have a man around to do her swearing for her. Even sympathy may be overdone. Brooklyn explorer tells of a n.ght spent in a ju-ju, then he spoils the in toxicating effect by explaining that a ju-ju Is a wKch doctor’s hut For sorr.« time. Henry Ford has been singing “The World Is Waiting , for the Surprise." Now he can sing "In the Shade of the Old Model T." DON’T CHEER YET—Evening gowns now are cut to the heels on one stdo and to the hip on the other. There’s no occasion to “hip, hip" over a one-hip affair. Now that the carnival has "came and went," and the new Ford car has been on display in Barnwell, thern’s nothing left to look forward to this year except Christmas. Such an expression in his message to Congress Tuesday is said to have been reponsible for a 20-point advance in price. One can easily imagine what would happen if his suggestion were put into actual practice. Tk+S/ffar. - SAM, YOU READ THAT? Precedent. \ The National Association of Mand- facturecs has protested against Uncle \ « Sam’s entrance into the field of manu- factuie or power development as un fair to private industry, which is compelled to pay taxes anu insurance and the like. For some time now the Government has been competing with the printers of the country through its practice of printing special request return ad dresses on stamped envelopes. Aifrl these printers must pay taxes, insur ance. rent and all the other expenses to which any form of private industry is subjected. This practico of printing envelopes is dinky business and bad business for Uncle Sam. The National Editorial Association and other organizations are waging war upon it. Humphries to another field of endeavor, but we at least have the consolation of knowing he will be only 20 milos away. During his all- too-short stay in this city, Mr. Hum phries has endeared himself to the members of his own congregation not only (as Woodrow Wilson would say), but also to the members of other oon- gregat'ons t s well.
