The club called to order by Mr. Benet. The Secretary called the roll of clubs and all were represented except the following : Bordoaux. Cokesbury. Lowndesville, Lowjidesville No. 2, McCormick. New Market and Phoenix. Mr. Benet, chairman, stated in refer- I ence to the resolution concerning a primary election lor Congressman that a meeting of the vnrious county chairmen of the clubs, throughout the Third District, was held in Seneca City on Friday last and that the following resolution was unanimously adopted. Jlesolved, That this committee recommend to the several county Democratic Conventions of this District, to clect the number of delegates to which they are entitled on the basis of representation established in 1884 to a Convention to be held in Seneca Citj' at 8.30 p. m. on Wednesday the 7th day of July next, instructed as to the wishes of the several counties upon the o fquestion nominating a Congressman by primary election, and for the purpose of settling the question only, with power to fix the date of such an election, and prescribe rules for the conduct thereof, if the primary plan shall be adopted by such convention. Mr. E. B. Gary moved tint the club go into an election for twelve delegates and twelve alternates, to attend the convention at Seneca City. A McNiel, John E. Bradley and E. G. W. H. Parker. Abbeville County has had many a representative in the House, but no one has reflected more honor upon her, than the gentleman, whose nu/na stands at the head of this piece. Mr. Parker has served his country faithfully in war and in peace, having been a gallant soldier in the Western Army, and having filled with credit to himself the important office of Commissioner in Equity. In the House he has served on various important committees, chief among them that of the Judiciary. He ranks high as a lawyer and is well-known as christian gentleman. Abbeville County will honor herself, by sending him again te represent in the lower House. MESSAGES. Mr. Arthur Parker is visiting relatives hare. Mr. W. J. Rogers, of Augusta, is in town. Captain and Mrs. Bonham returned on Saturday. Marshal Riley, we are glad to state, is still improving. Judge Kershaw will preside at court, which begins next Monday. Burdett had the misfortune to lose his house and all of its contents by lire on last Friday night. It is not known how the fire originated. As Mr. and Mrs. Burdett ware away from home at the time. Mr. Burdett had no insurance and his loss is quite a heavy one. The closing exercises of the Abbeville High School will take place in. the Court House on next Thursday night. The public are invited to be present. The session of the school during tho past year has been quite a successful one, and we understand that all of the present teachers have been retained for onother year. Wo are sorry that by reason of the absence of the senior editor the article of "Clod Hopper," written some weeks afro, did not appear. <it was addressed privately to the senior, hence was not opened by others in the office.
