County Democratic Club.
The club called to order by Mr.
Benet. The Secretary called the roll of
clubs and all were represented except
the following : Bordoaux. Cokesbury.
Lowndesville, Lowjidesville No. 2, McCormick.
New Market and Phoenix.
Mr. Benet, chairman, stated in refer- I
ence to the resolution concerning a primary
election lor Congressman that a
meeting of the vnrious county chairmen
of the clubs, throughout the Third District,
was held in Seneca City on Friday
last and that the following resolution
was unanimously adopted.
Jlesolved, That this committee recommend
to the several county Democratic
Conventions of this District, to
clect the number of delegates to which
they are entitled on the basis of representation
established in 1884 to a Convention
to be held in Seneca Citj' at 8.30
p. m. on Wednesday the 7th day of July
next, instructed as to the wishes of the
several counties upon the o fquestion
nominating a Congressman by primary
election, and for the purpose of settling
the question only, with power to fix the
date of such an election, and prescribe
rules for the conduct thereof, if the
primary plan shall be adopted by such
convention.
Mr. E. B. Gary moved tint the club
go into an election for twelve delegates
and twelve alternates, to attend the convention
at Seneca City.

Abbeville County has had many a
representative in the House, but no one
has reflected more honor upon her, than
the gentleman, whose nu/na stands at
the head of this piece. Almost Un

when he first went to the Legislature,
he at once assumed an influential position
by his sagacity, prudence, and wise
counsel, until now, his opinions are
universally respected and heiBregardci
as the most influential member from the
up-couutry. Mr. Parker has served his
country faithfully in war and in peace,
having been a gallant soldier in the
Western Army, and having filled with
credit to himself the important office of
Commissioner in Equity. In the House
he has served on various important
committees, chief among them that
of the Judiciary. He ranks high
as a lawyer and is well-known as
christian gentleman. Abbeville County
will honor herself, by sending him again
te represent in the lower House.

Mr. H. K. Burdett had the misfortune
to lose his house and all of its contents
by lire on last Friday night. It is not
known how the fire originated. As Mr.
and Mrs. Burdett ware away from home
at the time. Mr. Burdett had no insurance
and his loss is quite a heavy one.
The closing exercises of the Abbeville
High School will take place in. the
Court House on next Thursday night.
The public are invited to be present.
The session of the school during tho
past year has been quite a successful
one, and we understand that all of the
present teachers have been retained for
onother year.
Wo are sorry that by reason of the
absence of the senior editor the article
of "Clod Hopper," written some weeks
afro, did not appear. <it was addressed
privately to the senior, hence was not
opened by others in the office. We shall
be glad to hear from "Clod Hopper"
again. Let him send his name next

lege Georgia have died in the last four
months. Dysentery seems very prevalent
throughout the state. .
/Our friends about Yorkville, S. C. re
port a very fine crop of both oats and
wheat. Some oats will average 35 to 40

Miss Kate Lomnx spent several dayt
last week with Miss Johnnie Speer.

should be paid to the growing of this

Another boarding house in town.
A little miss of our town of our town
of "sweet" five, a short while ago concluded
that she would go a visiting.
She accordingly went to a house, near
by. After having been welcomed and
made much of she asked the lady of the
house if she had a parlor. Being answered
in the affirmative she asked to see it.
She was shown to it by a little
bpy,about her own ago. After critically
surveying it a few minutes with
all the innocence imaginable said "well
tain't much."
Mr. Jas. S. Perrin, the junior editor
of the Mkssknqeu, last Saturday was a
week, came to Lowndesville on visit to
Mr. Jas. M. Baker (?) On the next day
he worshipped" with the Methodists.
In these insinuations I hope I am not

There is now a much-to-be-pitied
trio in our town. Two of them some
time ago without tho fear of burglars or
"buggers," united their effects in part

house. Sometimes they koep the
