TilUl14DlAY, JAN. 17. 1901. $ovales Carolinsa inter-State and 'West Indian Exposithon. The dilligent efforts of those ii) clitgo of the exposition to be held in Charleston deserve succese. It is an enterprise that embraces the whole country and is designed to advertise especially southern in. dustries and advantages. It will )resent an opportunity by which the Piedmont section may show the peculiar conditions that obtain obtain here and should not be passed over without a determined, united action. A memorial ad drossed to the legislature asks an appropriation of $50,000 for the oxpress purpose of properly adver tising tho stato's resourcos. It seoms that this is a reasonable pro. position, and should receive the sanctio) of that body. Statistics aro prosented from the rosults of other expositionis which show an enormous increase in tax. le'l vailles in the stato when such vxhil.its were displayed, causing an increase in population and a consetient rise inl real estato val ues, besides an increase inl person ally valies and an accompai lng increase in the volume of ciiculat ing money. It is not a locid en tei priso for Charleston's benefit. but one that loois to the interest of the whole stato an' the south. 'The Cotton Crop.
