They have but little time except for looking! after the gathering of the leaves and the barns where the leaves are being cured. Some of the finest crops are being, gathered. W. F. Stackhouse of Marion, S. C., was among those who spent some time in Conway last week attending to business. He is back in Conway this week and will spend several days while engaged in the trial of cases before the court. ***** In the course of time Horry will lead all of the counties of South Carolina in tvc raising of tobacco and in I he marketing of tobacco. Mullins has the name of being the 'largest market at the present time, but this may not always be the case. ***** The case of N. Feldman against Solomon Scherr has been postponed j bv agreement from Julv 2nd to .Julvl ;>th. The plaintiff lives in Baltimore while the defendant now has a store at Tabor, N. C., and formerly eonducted a store in Conway also. ? There is a much difference in printers as there is in doctors, lawyers, and even mechanics. 4t * + * * Now is the time for the merchants r>f Conway to talk tohacco, advertise tobacco, and help in the campaign to tret the Conway market its full share r>f the weed that is raised in this section. There is a great quantity, of the weed being cured just nqw and it is t to the interest of the business men of the town to handle as much of it as possible. * * The work on the road from Conway to Myrtle Beach has been going :>n steadily for the past several weeks, rhe road is even now in much better ;hape than it was when the season >pened. There is no complaint being nade now as to this road and it is relieved that the rond will be mainlined in good condition throughout he Summer season. Martin, one of the visitors at the Baptist Conference held at Myrtle Beach last week, spent o!ne time in Conway last Thursday. Dr. Martin occupied an important place on the program at the conference. Fuller! Page No. % FINK CANTALOUPES. F. A. Stalvey brought to The Herald office the first of the week a freak cantaloupe gathered from his one fourth acre field. This cantaloupe was a twin, the two being joined together all the way along the length of the melons and having a stem that was united in the same way. Mr. Stalvey has raised as fine a crop as could be desired with exception that the dry weather burned thftm during last week causing the tops to show signs of sunburn. fo!(i v?;ui tlvee thousand perfect melons in it.
