I The city authorities of Aynor have proven their co-operative spirit by ^ building a spacious sidewalk through the town limits along the long street leading to the school building and the , students are meeting them from our end so that we have comfortable passanre to the stores and church. President and Mrs. Brown and Miss *1 Alma Lewis motored to Conway Wednesday on business. The Senior and Junior basketball teams were organized this week with ( Nell Page captain and Minnie Shelly * manager for the Seniors, and Louise ( Timmons captain and Mary Page ( manager for the Juniors. 1 Soon the supervised study period will begin. This has not been started J yet because the electrician has not ' done sufficient wiring to afford the l required light. Polls at each voting place must he >pened at 7 o'clock a. m., and closed it 1 o'clock p. m., except in the City if Charleston, where they sV'll be opened at 7 a. m., and closed at 6 p, 11. The Managers have the power to "ill a vacancy; and if none of the Managers attend, the citizens can apjoint from among the qualified voters, the Managers, who, after being sworn, can conduct the election. At the close of the election, the Managers and Clerk must proceed publicly to open the ballot box and ount the ballots therein, and con;inue without adjournment until the :ame is completed, and makt a statement of the result for each office, and sign the same. Within three days ;hereafter, the Chairman of the 3oard, or some one designated by the 3oard, must deliver to the Commissioners of Election the poll list, the >ox containing the ballots and written statements of the result of the elec;ion. They have been gathered 'rom the reports of your Home Demmstration Agent and show that her ime has beon well spent for the last tree months. June was the month for Short bourses for club girls and women. Phe Florence Agent brought her girls ind together Horry and Florence ie1d a Short course at Myrtle Beach :hat was quite a success. A well planned course of study was given, as >vell as a nice outing to the beach which all enjoyed. During July some of the club \vonen were so anxious to put up their fruits and vegetables they would can it night after a hard day's work in the fields with tobacco. They have canned soup mixture, tomatoes and corn with the Steam Pressure canner. They are also interested in the Burbee Sealer. The agent has given lessons in jelly making also. Two women ordered 500 cans thru the agent for their products. Some of the country people are making iceless refrigerators and trying to improve in every way. The agent has spent 58 (lays in the field, 32 in the office. Had 67 calls for information, written 117 letters, paid 127 visits, held 21 club meetings with an attendance of 246. HENRY GARDNER PAYS A FINE Henry Gardner, negro, was arrested by the chief of police under a charge of disorderly conduct and drunkenness, committed last Sunday nicrht at the corner of Laurel Street and 4th avenue. He was brought before the mayor last Monday morning and tried and found guilty of the charge.
