4 yMHTOOT ST AHE CORPORArToNS FOR QOTTOK CROP j Among the Many Important Matters to Be Considered -at Coming Meet COTT^J NEVER AGAIN LESS THAN AT PROFIT According' to a Recent Inter view With Mr. SI: otto we Wannamaker Columbia.?A meeting of the Board of Directors of the American Cotton Association will be held in New Organs on July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1919. Special committees have been appointed for handling matters of vital importance to the entire cotton belt. Among the important matters to be handled vis the matter of State Corporations for the marketing of y the cotton crop and a standard ware- I house system for the entire cotton belt. There are special committees actively at work on Banking Legislation, Finance and Organization, Cotton Tare, Marketing and Taking of Cotton Reports, all of which will make report# at the meeting of the Board in New Orleans. <At the Now Orleans meeting a whirlwind campaign for membership in the Association will be launched, so that every single, solitary farmer, merchant, banker, business and professional man, who has the best interests of the cotton grower at heart, throughout the length and breadth of the cotton belt will be solicited for membership. Many of the States have already put on this campaign, as the rivalry between the states to complete their oiganization first will be very in Objects of Association. "Cotton will never be sold again foi less than a profitable price as n result of the worm of the American 'Cotton Association," says J. Skot- j towe Wannamaker, president of the | Association. A standard warehouse 1 s> stein to be controlled by the pro- I 4 duccr throughout the entire cotton ' I belt is one of the primary objects of ' the Association. A marketing corporation which will enable the producer to sell his cotton at the hi guest possible price is one of the important matters which is being work- j ed out. Both of these plans are fully ' h described in Bulletin No. 2, which ha.s)c just been issued by the Association, j AM the New Orleans meeting plans , will be perfected for the checking of , ^ crop reports. Arrangements are be-j| ing made to have representatives in (* every cotton consuming country in ^ the world to secure direct informa-! ticn as to the need for cotton. The 1 very best experts in the South will be : secured for handling crop reports, the Association to issue such crop reports twice monthly. j "The oa^unization of the Export Corporation is being energetically pushed to a prompt completion. This corporation will revolutionize the entire busiwpss interests of the South." 4> Legal blanks, Herald office. ; LIFT OFF CORNS! r " Apply few drops then lift sore, i L touchy corns off with ^ I * fingers WK. ,\x^ mi; Doc^ji o hurt a bit! Smugglers who mve attempted to run the blockade >f war prohibition laws to bring itjuor into the country have met ftith small luck and officials of the ly^toms service believe similar attempts under natiomd prohibition tvill not be more productive. Several thousand gallons of intoxicating drinks and a number >f ?utomobiles confiscated from international "bootleggers" testify to the effectiveness of the customs inspection. The automobiles can be disposed of by the government at any time, but the liquor is providing a difficult problem as it must be sold before midnight on June 119. Auctions have been ordered in an effort to got rid of the property. Liquor captured in dry territory will be taken to a nearby port of entry in a state where it can be sold. The Canadian ^ind Mexican borders and Florida apparently attract more liquor smugglers than other parts of the country. Owing to the bulk of the contraband, few attempts | have been made to smuggle any in by persons arriving at Atlantic or Pacific ports on ocean liners. On the Canadian borders there have been numerous. attempts by smugglers operating in automobiles * ' - ;_x_ to run wnisicey across mw uiy states. Always the effort has been fruitless, resulting in confiscation of the contraband and of the vehicle and conviction of those responsible for the attempt.
