There is nothing more thoroughly lost than time which is thrown away. ? ?o A peace made in Berlin by victorious allied armies will be the best kind we can have. o It will take Germany a long time to pray for what that country has done. m AVe should never scorn the ideas of others for they are valuable in many ways. o The man of simple mind is tiresome to anothei who is brilliant an 1 the reason is plain. o Better plant the wheat crop you have been thinking about. Youv neighbor may have flour when you will not. o It is useless to wait until it is too late and then stir up trouble trying to do something that cannot he done. Act in time or else leave it off. ? " - - 1 Horry Coun is not as wealthy as some counties of the State; but she allows none to head her off in patriotism. o The boys who die from disease such as influenza at the camps cause more sadness than those who die from German bullets in France. o Some men yo ahead and accomplish greater thing than their brothers simply because they have more native and acquire I rb !ity to do more. There is a big difference in the ability of men to perform tr.sks. o Our ideas of what is best arc controlled to a gnat extent by the standard we have to nu ;e ure by, Phis shows th( need of broad know ledge and informal ion on ai.y subject with which we have to <h al. FURIOUS FIGHTING ON BRITISH FRONT With the British Army in France. ?There has been fighting of the most furious nature along the Britfront. This has been tiue especially along the Beaurevoir line, in the region east of Le Catelet. The last strong linen of the Hindenburg system having been smashed, the British in possession of it and rcconnoitering far in advance, the Germans apparently feeling that they were fighting with their backs to the wall, have launched six powerful counter attacks during the past 24 hours. As a result of one of them the British withdrew for a moment from Beaurevoir itself and from Mont Brehain to the western outskirts of the village. Huns Used Two Divisions. For these attacks the Germans used two divisions which had been released from the line through the capture by the French of St. Quentin. All the otnor offensive* foiled utterly. At the cud ot' them the bodies of German dead were piled as a result of the rifle, machine gun and shell fire and the British were in possosson of vital lines of the German defense. The breach made in the system of defense here is a narrow one as yet. For that reason the armored cars which went out to it last night reconnoitered deeply abound now positions. Then they returned The Germans now seem to bo most active on either side of the breach. Apparently they fear that efforts will be made to widen it. Meanwhile the roads and railways everywhere in the rear are crowded with east bound traffic. The civilians are being evacuated from many towns. In Flanders today the advance of the Allied troops seemed slow because 01 the had roads and soggy ground, made it almost impossible foi them to negotiate the terrain at many places. The soldiers fighting here are caked with mud. Many of thorn have had to wade hip deep through the j oose whiie fighting their way for- 1 ward. Again there has been fighting in the streets in Cambrai, es- j pecially in the southern portion of i mo town around which tho Hritish lines are slowly, but steadily being drawn. It is expected that the town may fall at any time. In the Lille sectors the Germans | arc falling back eastward, leaving unly rear guards; V?hind \;t? protect their retreat. , f ; T O'f; u'lhj* Did you miss the. Jiapor for tne 'et two weeks?
