Hawley, president of the Aero Club of America, today told a sub-committee ol the House military affairs committee. Mr. Haw ley strongly indorsed the proposal, saying it had been said that 25,000 aviators could do more toward terminating the war than 1,000,000 additional soldiers. He also indorsed the ^hrnnnrd-Hulhfrt hill, under ronsid eration, to establish a separate department of aeronautics. "Our Allies are doing everything they can to turn out aviators and aircraft in large numbers,"-he said. ! "Great Britain, according to authoritative reports,^ is A producing ; 4 000 airplanes Imonth, and , France as many, but they are used ixi fast as they are manufactured." For Commercial Use. h What might remain of the 100,000 airplanes when peace is restored could be utilized for commercial, purI p<. ses, he said. A French governj rncnt commission now ' is making | plans for such use. Mr. Hawley predicted that the day of trans-Atlantic air lines was -<*t | hand. "We are now manufacturing* ai. i cruisers capable of crossing the Atlantic, and have both the pilots and the instruments needed for piloting | ti.cm." he said.
