It wot only about three years ago very soon after W. J. Commissioner Watson devoted attention that day to an expression of his faith in the future of the Sand Hill Region of the State and to urging upon those present the possibilities of growing peaches. Time went on and it was not long before Mr, Wilson on his White Winy Farms, and others, began to plan peach orchards with carefully selected fruit trees, being assisted in this work most effectively by the farm demonstration forces. The Civic League will hold its meeting for the month of June, at the Burroughs school, on Thursday the 1st, at 5 o'clock. o WORK ON BRIDGE IS GOING AHEAD The work on the new steel bridge across the Kingston Lake started last week and was going rapidly ahead with a view to get the new struclun in place as soon as possible and oper it to the use of the public. It is now well on the way to completion. Permission was obtained from Messrs. Burroughs & Collins Co.. lo turn the western end of the bridge further away from the sharp cornci of the brick building of the Quattlcbaum Light & Ice Co., thus giving a much wider street at the approach to the bridge on this side of the k?k' and materially lessening the liklihood of any accident. It was also mentioned that the placing of tile in the deep ditch running; along the (lege of the sidewalk by the | plant building, would make a larger, space in which to turn the corner and ... (J. We are informed that the Civic League of the Town of Conway Agree to have the work done necessary to beautify the grounds of the Court House if tlie County will furnish the funds. They have employed a Landscape Gardener for the School Grounds, the Cemetery and Park, and will have him to advise as to the Court House grounds if the County will furnish the funds to carry his recommendations into effect. We recommend that the County Hoard of Commissioners take, immediate steps to enclose, piotect and beautify the Court House grounds, and to this end that the County Commissioners accept the Civic League's offer. 7. We are informed that question has arisen as to whether a certain convict on the Chainga >g is sufficiently able bodied to do manual labor upon said gang. We recommend that the County Authorities in charge of said gang make proper investigation of the facts and in the event any member [>f said gang is not able to do manual labor without detriment to his health :>>' any member of said gang is diseased So as to endanger the health of those with whom he comes in contact hat such convict be dclclured not an ible bodied convict and committed to :ho State penitentiary under the ernis of his sentence.
