TEST SEED CORN V IN GOOD TIME ????? jd (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3) number of typical ears show gcrminat ini* tests as high as 97 per cent, the seed in general may be considered gcod. Under the unusual conditions prevailing this year, especially in neighborhoods where the corn did not mature normally, it should well repay a corn grower to test every ear that he intends to use for seed. If he has Hpny reason to doubt the quality of his individual stock, the ear-b.v-ear testing is simply a form of labor ant? crop insurance. Before testing germination, the farmer should examine each ear and throw out all the oars which do not look right or which have several withered or damaged kernels. He should stMve to make up his seed from ears which in size and appearance seem to he normal for his variety or corn. Seed corn should bo shelled if possible by hand to avoid the risk of damage by mechanical shelling. Before shelirg the owner should pick out neculiai looking kernels and separate the seed into sizes so as to make certain that t!:? corn drill will plant regularly. * WOl*LI) BAR YF.LLOVVS. Washington, Jan. 1il.?Drastic rest ietions would be thrown about the immigration of Japanese into the United States, and both Hindus and Chi.noso virtually would be barred from T the country by a provision that has \ been written into the immigration bill to bo reported to the house next week r b; the immigration committee. The ne*v features relating ot immigration from Japan would have the most far-reaching effect in the expectation of committee members, in shutth g off effectually the influr of Japanese laborers whose competition with American labor in the Pacific states has aroused a pronounced anti^ A-iatig sentiment. As agreed upon tentatively, the exclusion section of the bill includes a paragraph burring "Hindus and all persons of th Mongolian or Yellow race and the Malay or Brown race." Before a import is made to the i i uouse nowcver, a proposed qualification probably will bo added. This will provide that there shall be such ex+ eruptions as may be set forth i 11 any existing agreements, as to passports or by treaties, conventions or agreements that may hereafter be entered into. Other portions of the bill would raise the head tax on immigrations to 2$ 3 and would increase the penalties. i 5 wiiwiSimimim Uig worus that alio would take Esther to dwell at Stanley ball. The note begged her to meet him at the old stile nt the top of the hill, back of Stanley hall. And Esther was there to keep the tryst. ''You must not do this!" she panted wildly when Arthur explained his purpose. But Arthur laughed and paid i her si brotherly compliment for her bright eyes and fair cheeks, set off all the hotter for her agitation and tlie beautiful white frock that she had donned for the tournament. "1 will ride wearing your favor, Ksthcr, dear." said Arthur, and lie took ( the silken sash she wore and kissed her and rode away, placing on his mask as he adjusted the sash as si scarf. The Balkans continued to take precedence in the war news, both Montenegro and Greece being points of notable interest. The situation in each however, is somewhat cloudy by paucity of direct news and decided con-1 flict in such advices as are received. Of the field of war in Asia, dispatches late last night form Petrograd claimed further successes for the Rus sinus against the Turks in the C'au-i casus campaign, the Russian olTunai! statement declaring that the Turkish army in the vicinity of Erzerum had been defeated and was retreating precipitately to the protection of the Erzerum forts. f There is discussion in Germany ?Nf a, separate peace between German* and Belgium and London dispatch quotes \n influential Frankfurt newspaper I is suggesting that Belgium ought not to wait too long bo fore taking up the subject as Belgium, which until now has been considered as an obiect of exchange by the German chancellor, would come to be considered a good prize. o The Best Hot Weather Ton'".
