Prohibition depends on the people. o Life is too short to spend much of , it in arguing. Arguing never did any good much anyway. The whole European conflict was started by just a little argument. o It was brain that caused the Suropean war to break out, it is brain that is keeping it going for a time, and it will have to be brain that can devise plans for stopping it. o As soon as Mexico is out of one revolution there is another waiting at the door. Just as we said some time ago, the only thing that will up- ? parently stop it is to kill them all off. o It is a shame, but true nevertheless that there are many laws on the staute books that are not enforced. All such should be repealed. Nothing would cause more disresnect for the law than the passage of acts that no one will enforce. o The brain of a man is a restless thing as it was intended to be in the creation. He who lets it run on one thing forever soon bcomes a crazy crank. Keep resting it by shifting it from one problem to another in such a way that it can take a fresh hobl every now and then, and instead oft becoming unbalanced it will improve with the use and the results of thinking. o We think that the passage of an act makfhg it a jail sentence without alternative for tlie blindtigers and the other drastic legisaltion that is being enacted, or attempted to be enacted by the General Assembly, to en force prohibition in this State, is to some extent a mistake. By making these laws too drastic it will cause a sentiment against prohibition with certain classes of people who will aid in vol- j, ng the State wet some day wc are ifraid. There is such a thing as havng enough of any good thing, and the endcncy of too many people these lays is to get too far. THC HORRY HER CANNOT NOW AFFORD TO DELAY PLANNING | In Time of Peace to be Ready for War Which May Come New York, Jan. 28.?President Wilson last night began his personal appeal to the country for preparedness for national defense. He gave warning that plans for the readjustment of the army must be carried out without delay and solemnly declared he could not predict that the outlook for the United States would be as bright tomorrow as today. Speaking at banquets of the Railways Business association and the Motion Picture board of trade, lie sounded the keynote to (addresses that he will deliver during the next ten days in the middle west. Mr. Wilson was in a fighting mood. In a speech early in the day he declar ed lie always accepted an invitation to fight. Last night be told the railroad men he was an advocate of peace ( and had struggled to keep the Unite ; States at pence, but he considered the liberty and honor of the nation even ; more than peace. "Woe to any man who plays mar. plot or who seeks to make party poii ucs or personal ammtton take precedence over candor, honor am! unse' fish, unpartisnn service!'' said tb president in speaking of his defens ; plan before the railroad num. AIDS WEAK KIDNEYS The symptoms of kidney and bladder troubles are often very distressing and leave the system in a rundown condition. The kidneys seem to suffer most, as almost every victim complains of lame back and urinary troubles which should not be neglected, as these danger signals often lead to dangerous kidnev troubles. Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root which soon heals and strengthens the kidneys is a splendid kidney, liver and bladder remedy, and, being an herbal compound, has a gentle healing effect on the kidneys, which is almost immediately noticed in most cases by those who use it. A trial will convince anyone who may be in need of it. Better get a bottle from your nearest drutr store ami start treatment at once. However, if you wish first to test Ihis great preparation send ten cents to Dr. Kilmer & Co., Binghampton, N. V., for a sample bottle.
