" , o You cannot successfully hide your real character, and it is uselscs to try. o Opportunities thrown away never return until alter it is too late. o Your neighbors know you better than you know yourself, ' ? *- -0? ?" The gretttfest institution in the world is the home, . h : o The cold days of Winter the best while sweating undci* the hot days of July. o The greatest labor performed by some men is the want of the other man's job. o Some people place no value on their time neither will they place any value on yours. n The use of benefits for which a man is unable to pay is one of the very worst forms of extravagance. o A woman will some times throw away her best safeguards. You can judge what they arc. o Fortunate is the man who can manage to learn his lessons without the school of experience. o Those who want large means would not have them long in nine cases out of ten. y o It takes /.oney to make money say some men, and they use this as an argument for not saving any. <> Time thrown away is like the water that has passed along the brook. It is not due to reutrn again. ??o That which would destroy can be turned into useful purposes whea the right means are used with it. o Europe has cracked harder nuts than those composing the Ford pil% gnms. ?, o This country is a good place for peace dreams just now. Let us hope it does not become a theatre for war.< o The Ford pilgrims can say after their return that they have seen "Europe and that is what most of them went for; that was the purpose behind lU of them unless it was Ford Him*?I end the newspaper men. It is not always the darkest cloudt which drop the most rain on the earth. o ? Travelling in Europe now is a dangerous business, although it is a peace party. (V The most powerful things in this world are the weakest really. A woman's tears for instance. o What you ean do in the world dcI pends upon the amount of energy that nature gave you. Try to use what you have to the best advantage. o The things which are the most valuable are those which most people are the more apt to throw away and squander. It should not be so. o You have never seen a lazy man yet who was not about ready to go to work. Therefore mere talk means nothing. o Conditions are never as bad as they might be; but this is poor consolation in the face of the shortage of fertiliz; ? _ :i.. i i.r i ? *1 iiiK nunc i litis uruugnc aoout Dy tno European war. o It is a mistake for a man to decide in his own mind that all other men ought to live exactly as he does. The biggest fool in the world is the man who spends his time and energy trying to get others to live like he does. o The fruits of labor are worth much more when they follow the work as a reward. The pleasure in pay is taken away by using it up before the labor has been performed. Some men will refuse to take notice and learn until they are forced to do so by circumstances. Others take time by the forelock and are prepared ahead of the circumstances. o It IS HO*. V? licit ci nuiii ttppOiil'S I" "t' in .society that determines his real place therein; but it is rather what that man does in filling his daily life, that portion of the world's work which he accomplishes day in and day out, which fixes his place in the everlasting good estimation of the community. " *- yi ; o Many a young man has started out in this life to make his mark in some profession by being a good boy and hale-fellow-well-met on the street corners; by making speeches at social functions and being the general handy-man of the ladies and dead beats of the community; only to find when it was forever too late that he was beaten to the finish by the man Who staid in Ms office and devoted his talent and soul to serving those who wished to employ him. The man who outstripped him had no time for the things which the other threw his time away at. q >H4T| One of the greatest misfortunes of the farmers of Horry County to-day is the practice they arc following (by necessity) of spending the proceeds of their crop before those crops are raised. They arc compelled by force of circumstances to give a mortgage on the crops in the beginning of the year for the supplies they will use during the Spring and Summer while cultivating the crops. By the timeharvest comes they are as apt to be in debt more than the crops will pay as any other way. It is an unfortunate condition that we hope they will learn to grow out of some time. o OBITUARY In Remembrance of Little Alice B Mills.
