Charged with sending military information to Germany by means of invisible ink, three men have been arrested and will be tried in a civil court at Loudon. Two negro girls, Lessie Newton and Ruth Woodbury, turned out last Saturday evening to replenish their Spring Wardrobes by tho addition of several dresses and articles of Springwear. At the store of Nissen-Todd Co., they were caught making off with a dress. Again at the store of the L. H. Burroughs Co., they made off with a dress and perhaps some other articles of wear. The proof was not sufficient to make out a case against Lessie Newton in the Burroughs case, but Ruth was fined in the sum of $10.00 in that ease, in the charge brought against them before the Mayor in the Nissen-Todd! ease, both of the girls were fined in ! the sum of ten dollars, one of them pleading guilty before the Mayor in this case. Quite a crowd of colored people gathered at the City Hall on Monday morning while these eases were being tried. ROBB1NS D1EH OF WOUNDS Negro Who Shot Him Killed by Fosse?Was a Tori or of Fugitives. John Catlett Hobbies, State executioner, who was shot Friday near Pinewobd, in Clarendon County, by a negro, Joel Green, a fugitive from justice, whom he was pursuing, died Saturday night at 7 o'clock at a hospital in Columbia. Green himself was shot to death that morning by the deputy sheriff's posse after an all night search in a swamp near Pinewood. The negro wore a steel breastplate and carried a shot gun and two pistols. "Governor, 1 was trying to do my duty,'' said Mr. Robbins, as he was being rushed to Columbia late Friday night. Gov.
