Woodward, Conway, S. C. q THURSDAY, MAY 15th, 1913. n h The Spring is upon us and with it r the Spring fever. The fever has a been cooled by strawberries and ^ cream. s t * * * f. It is useless to try to judge a man ^ by what ho says. Often it is that . the loudest mouthed man in a com- ^ in unity is the most trifling, and the least in him, for all his chatter. t Now-a-days the "gas-bag" is a common occurence in every day life as c well as in the matter of aeronautics. a Just like the inflated baloon, the ' r everlasting talker bursts all at once . in the estimation of thoughtful people Many a time a man has entered , a town and talked 'he business men ^ to de ith over some visionarv scheme ^ that there could bo uothing in, and t stiil by his carefully chosen words . he has nude tnmy believe things just as impossible as that monev , could grf?w on trees, ar.d eausrd them oftn o put, 'heir g >od money in a bad c;>u8*\ * # c * t Tien- n . r l' 1 t'y ea 11 (1 for tin- purp >?e of discussing ways and meanv ha- din g the tuall boy problem in this town, i-hows that some of 'h parents are waking up lo 'he fuc1 that the control of this \ element, i* nece^ a?y *o ?h?i quiet c-l-j >ymr-ut "f life here, and to some ^ extent, the preservation of property, and above all the careful training of th/ risii g generation of men whn will sootier or luter have to take the pLce of the fathers. Some of the boys who take part in the disorderlv conduct that has caused so much ( complaint are larger than a stranger . would think when told about it, and t many of them are much older than g they look. It will no doubt be found t upon investigation that the main cause of the trouble is these little, but old, boys who are leading the really little ones astray. A small boy is generally apt to follow the r example of one who is some older c and larger than he is and who knows i more, or pretends to know more. The only remedy as we have said before is for the parents to take hold j of the matter. We are sorry for t the parent who is willing to let their s children leave the home and knock about the ntreots for no other rea- ^ aon than that they want to get rid . CI of them for a while and relieve them ^ selves for the time being of the fuss t( and racket that they arc allowed to kick up in the house. Restraint is the only thin#. Such a place has been needed n the past, and it was r-alkod about or a lonir time. But nothing defi lite was ever done until the women ormed the Civic League, and then he movement was put on foot quick Y We are glad this has been done 3r more reasous than one. In the rst place it will insuro rest and uietness to many women who do ot care to put up at any of the otels or boarding houses. In this oora thoy can leave their bundles nd other things and thero they will e safe. But more than all, it will how that the ladies of the town are hinking of the convenience and com nrfe )f their cousins from the counry, and will result in a better feeing between them. If the women ike each other, it will follow that he men will like each other, and here should be no feeling whatever in the part of the people from the lountry, that the people of the town tre against them in any respect. We nention this for the reason that it s some times found that thero is lome feeling on the part of those iving in the country, that the peo)le of the town are forever trying o take advantages to themselves at he expense and loss of their country irotbers. rrhi? i? per>?r?inl I or? _ _ _ - _ _ , Ma*/ W V W J-/ * - V I M I O V/ III natter* political, and during heated lampaigns there is nothing more isual tr an to hear it said by the voters of he country that the peo )1p of the town are supporting a iertain candidate for the reason ihat the town wants to obtain adran'uges ov? r the country, and the jarticulir candidate is in position o favor the town mote than the :ountry Tnere is no excu>e for my such feehug us h is b en proved rery oft. n I', is hard to imagine k case where it wousd be p>ssiole or the town to take advantage of .he country Such things as these rxists only in the imag nation of the people and are fostered by local pre udices. That the people of the .own are always thinking of the teople from the country and their :omfort when they visit the town, s shown by a hundred and one hings that may be named any , day, ind if these things wero rot done, he people visiting the city from the country would know it and realize vhat we are saying quickly. Now he ladies of the civic league have ^ ? ? - uuuu urraugemems lor this rest oorn, aud although they have acorn pliehed much in the past few nonths, allow us to say without fear if successful contradiction, that the iroviding of this rest room for the adies visiting Conway, is as good a hing as the iadiesof the leaguohave o far done, and that it will b3 hard 3r them to do a better thing in the Jturc. Now that they have pr >vid d the room it will bo up to them to seP it furnished in such a way as ) do the most good and fully an >U?i - . - _ . - .. r ' k wor the purpose for which it has . been established. That the ladies of the le:??ue will do this, wo have no f doubt.
