$ 'f ^ > = VOL KXV1I ' 111 id E. L. Moore Who Got in Trouble in Georgetown ARRESTED AT JACKSONVILLE He Recently Left Georgetown and Was at Jacksonville in North Carolina,? Arrested There Last Week by Sheriff's Deputy,--Trouble Grows out of the Same old Trouble of Giving Checks,?Family Troubles Perhaps Involved. E. L. Moore, who is well known to many people of this this county, was again arrested one day last week and was lodged in jail here to await aavites from the sheriffs of Geoigelown and Charleston Coun lies. The arrest was made under two warrants it is said, one coming from ttis authorities of Charleston County, the other from the sheriff or constaDle in Georgetown County. It was statid that both charges agaiust the defendant were under the law prohi. Sing the giving of a check or draft against a bank where the drawer at the time has no funds with which the check or draft may be paid. W. J. Johnson, as deputy for Sheriff Lewis, went lo Jacksonville, N. C.,with the two ^ warrants, aDd finding Moore there, arrested him and at last accounts the defendant was in the Horry County jail awaiting the authorities from the other counties mentioned. It appears that recently Mr Moore went to Georgetown and purchased the furnishings of the old Central Hotel there from R. T. Har mon. Some checks were passed at that time which were turned down by the bank here, the 1st National, and he was arrested on a warrant from Georgetown but finally made bond and later ihe Georgetown papers stated that he had given up the hotel business. He left that place and went to Jacksonville, N. C., where he was arrested as above stated. His wife is witn her relatives near Allin, S. C. The report was urrent here recently that there had been some trouble in this regard. Tne two checks under which the two new charges were brought seem to be different transactions entirely from the first batch of trouble which came along at the time he went into the hotel business. What these last checks were given for ha* not been siated. R. T. Harmon, special deputy, took Moore to George town last Monday morning. Baptist Foreign Mission Board. Tne books of the Foreign Mission Board closed last Wednesday night with a debt of $7(5,000.00. The total contributions for the year amounted to $513,000 00. Of this amount. South Carolina gave little o* - f.l <;0 00, not 4uite reaching her aiJ^iMoouiont. We are glad to report that the Waccamaw Associa tioo paid out in full the amount she was asked to raise. I have said in speaking of the shortage that "The Waccamaw Association was not re sponsiole for it" but perhaps this is saving too much, for while we did raise the amount asked for we did not do as much as we could have done, It is not so much a question as to what the Committee asked of us but what our Master asks. If we can feel that we have pleased the Loid it differs but little whether or not we please men. Some of our Waccamaw Associatiou Members have been very libera) while others could nave done more. We hope that our people will not get the idea that the work is done and that the Bjard is not greatly in need. The great need i9 now. The shortage means either one of three things, 1st, To cali back some of the Missionaries now on the Fields, 2ad, To borrow more money j to pay their expenses, and 3rd, For us to come to the rescue of the Board and send in our offering regu jar ana noerany, inow which ol the three? It appears to me that the latter is the right and proper. May we see our duty and do it. J. C. Spivey. > For Burns, Bruises and Sores. A letter from the president of the ^ South Carolina B^ederation of YVomans' Clubs, asking that w5 pin them was read by Mrs Malcolm Collins. Joining this Federation met whh the approval of tho league. The chairman of the Rest Room Committee reported that Mr. Chas. The work needed to be done on the rooms, to be used as rest rooms, s was mentioned and the league decided to do its best to raise the finances. The committee on Rest Room t was continued. It was moved and carried that an amendment of the constitution, do- *' ing away with dues, be repealed. As the article non stands, each member c of the Conway Civic League is required to pay fifty cents as annual dues. i As it was thought that some of our citizens would like to aid iu the Civic League work, and especially c in tho establishing of a rest room and the placing of tho trash cans, it v was deckled that a box for contributions be placed at Conway Drug Store- Dr. Epps will be asked to c take charge of these contributions and the league will bo grateful for any assistance, large or small, After discussing ways for the league to raise money, the old time ( Dime Reading, was decided on. One of the struugest experiences with a snake ever related that in this part of the oouutry, perhaps, was told here somes days ago by a gentlemen from the White Oak or Adrian section of this county. Too experience was with a rattle snake pilot, thus makiug tho story more interesting. Hat to the story itself. It is related that Mr. J. C. As good fortune would have it, tho snake's fangs caught ono on each side of a linger, just grazing the sit in, and the chilu was uninjured. Hastily putting down the baby ho was carrvintr. iu: ran to the scene of the com bat, and grabbing the rattler by the middle, he whipped out its life around a pine. One man who doubted the story, went to the place and found a remnant of the snake at the pine described by Mr. Todd, and he found oilier evidences which would show that the story is perfectly true and makes something to be set down in ohe annals of the straugo and dangerous experiences that this child will dv u >tiesi run up against through tue course ol its lile in mis world, Legal Salosday.
