CO SUUCKIPTION OllK DOl.LAH PJ K V 15 Alt II. if. WOODWARD. KclltCr THURSDAY, APRIL, 17 , 1913 The lands of llorry County art tJOOcl enough for nnvhorlv wVinn you hear a farmer running down lands In llorr}', tell him ho is mistaken. A farmer can do better in this section of our State than he can in many others, and certainly better than he can in many of our sister states. * * * The recent account published in this and in other prpers of the success of Mr. Gaskins, in farming in this county, has no doubt been read aud considered by inary other plan tors in dilTercnt sections of this county. It shows that there is a chance for every farmer to succeed and make money if lie will only man age right and apply himself to his task, | * * * A mat) discouraged, once remarked,? "What, is it all for? Men are born ir*o the world every minute, jr- "and just as often men die. Ever since the world began, generation nas succeeded generation, and men have lived and accomplished only tc die and leave it all. llow long would this go on? For how long had it already been going on? These ques tions had puzzled the thinker and the dreamer above referred to. He was discouraged and therefore inclined to worry about things which did not concern him. For it is no part of our business to enquire into things entirely beyond human perception. It is sutlicient to know that there will come a time when all will bo made plain, when all myster?tu i? ?1 * it}* win ue soiveci because they will bo viewed through a changed eye. * * * It is unquestionably the duty of every man and woman in this world, in fulfiillment of the dut3r they owe their creator, in whose image they fwere made, to make their lives as much as possible a reflection of the divine; always aiming higher and higher through each changing scene from the cradle to the grave. By some the thought has been exprossied that this life can only be a preparation for that higher and better life which is to come after all of this earthly pilgrimage shi 11 bo over. One reason why one would be inclined to doubt this in its literal sonse is that it is not always so regarded, and is by no moans generally practiced. Anyway, there is not a doubt, but that this life was placed in the keeping of the humau race to do with it as they might, each nan and woman being a free agent. If this be so then it may bo used by any man or womau as a means for preparation for a higher and better life V that is sure to eorae after. No rnatf ter what the arguments might be we still stick to the proposition we i started out with, which is that it is every man's duty to make his life and his development therein an honHor and credit if he possibly can to BSBMhc great power which created him. msmm HI Some surprise was expressed reI Hl.tly at the quick ending of the H^^Krm of the court of Common Pleas, HEj^^Hc judge adjourned tho oourt on I^PRchday dismissed tho H Hinrv. and stated that the court could ^^pnot hold a jury over for the balance *-' of that day in order to try an impor taut case on Wednesday the follow too far, and fail to giye sufficient thought to the rights of parties who desire their cases disposed of before the court. What bar in the State can arrange the cases so that there is something to do every minute of the day? None of thom can do it. Asa general rule the judges at the courts fail to give any consideration to the views and opinions of the members of the bar, and they proceed apparen ily on the view that the attorneys are always anxious to put olT cases rather than to try them. They blame the lawyers without reason in this matter as any one will see by investigating. The truth about the matter is that the re icnt court should have gone on until nearly the end of the week and important litigation would have been disposed of instead of remaining to clog the dockets of the court. What was not dono then, .vill certainly remain to be done another time, and the jurymen must come back to the county scat to do it. Entertainment at Watts School House. There will be an entertuinmont at the Watts School House, near Adrian, Saturday night, April 19th. We will havea temperance program, followed by a play entitled "A Village School of Long Ago." There will also be a pie supper and ice cream will ba served. Everybody invited to come, and a good time is expected. The girls expected to | bring pics. Committee.
