Many farmers of this State attended the corn show in Columbia, and they no doubt got encouragement and inspiration from what they saw. * * * Agriculture is the foundation of the prosperity and well being genrally of every natien of the earth. At no time in the history of the world have men paid so much attention to its improvement. * * Formerly the pneral heath of the people in tb-= ountry distric s received very little or no attention from those in charge of the government. * It has been realized at last that the conservation of the public health is of as much or more importance than the building of big business enterprises, E.nd that it means money saved and life prolonged. * * * The practice of extending credit to any who applies for it by the merchants of the country, is retpiusiblo for many a case in the bankruptcy court. On the other hand it does no good in the long run to the man to whom the credit i& given. It _ __ i 1 snows Dim a way in wn'ca ne may get something for nothing, ar.d geu him in the habit of trying to bes others, rather than make an hones* living by hard work. * * * You marvel at the inventions of modern times and wonder if the limit has been reached. Rest assured that there are just as great di&coveries still waiting, yes even greater than wisest men have ever dreamed of. Use the brains that nature has given you. You may be able to invent something that will benefit your race, or you may devise some new plan or way of doing and old thing that will revolutionize somo already great industry. For these reasons always observe and think. You are as apt to see and find the secret as another man * * * Many times in this paper we have advised the farmers of the county to ecdevor to get their business on a cash basis and cut out forever the practice of giving every year a Bill of Sale on the crop of that year for th a ?nnn1ip? lhp?v would need in raising it. Nothing would relieve the farmer from hard times so much a? this, and if we could got them to 0 it ve would feel that we had duuc something for them, by giving them the Idea. They have to pay time prices for all that they use. For cash they could get nearly twice the amount of supplies that they do on time at crop lien prices. t ' Why not be a year Vrv ad instead of a year behind? It is easy to do if they wiil but try. First they will have to get th0 consent of their ^ jx ind to live very hard for a year or two, and in that way save sufficient means to purchase the supplies of the current year while they are producing a crop out of the proceeds of - which they will live the following year.
