WtTIUCU 1 CI It ITAOjr MU A anvil as Settled that the Choice Lies Between San ford and Homewood, the Latter Place Being the Favorite.? The Purpose and Object. An important meeting, well at" t<? idnd, was hold at the rooms of the Wacoamtw Club in the Bmk of Horry building, last Thursday, in relation to the Industiial School and connected enterprise*. It. was a r meeting of the principal subscribers to the capital stock, for the purpose of appointing a committee to apply for a charter, and otherwise to f organize the persons interested into better working shape. Messrs. it B. Scarborough, F. A. Itn /tn orh a I) A RniVPV iind Pillll Quattlebaura, of Conway; A. Tuvlor ft. () Watson and J. A Campbell, of Columbia; W. 1<\ Stackhouse, of Marion, and L. Dow Suggs, of Loris S C., were elected by the meeting us a board of corporators, and au thoriz?d to apply at once for a charter for the company. The meeting was first organized by the election of C. P. Qu>i! tlebaum as temporary chairman and Paul Quatllebaurn as secretary. The board above named was uotonly authorized to apply for and secure a charter for .1 - U.. t IUa.. 1 ? ? I. X lie UUUI[JUUV. uui uiJfjf at c bu iuuk over all the options secured on the different lands, and select a site for the enterprise, subject to the apf proval of the stockholders before , whom this part of the matter will ( come The meeting was very interesting as plans were discussed showing bum the undertaking is bound to become a success. Dr. Watson who has been at the head of this movement since its inceptiou is an able executive, fully competent to plan such an enterprise and carry it out to a successful conclusion. Ho ^ is one of the braiuiest man in the South Carolina conference, and he is pushing the matter with all the energy he possesses, * Options were secured recently at two different locations in the county one ot them at Sanford, and the other at Homewood. It is stated that 5U00 acres of land is offered at Sanford together with about 110,000 i h rvHAimmnn In o n/1 ?*? i t K v worm Ul iiu [>?i u viyiuuu uoj uuu witu other advantages tke value of which would be hard to estimate ia money. The bulk of this land at Sanford is owned by Allsbrook Bros., one of the largest and most successful*business and mercantile firms in Horry County They have been located at that point for many years, and they have spent thousands of dollars in im^ provements there, all of which will go to this new enterprise should San ford be selected as its location The price for all of this is teported as being about $.*>0,000 00, for the lund and all of the improvements ou it excepting possible the stock of goods in the store. By many this is regarded as being one of the best propsi tions that could be made to secure the school. Options upon a large acreage has been secured at Homewood, and there are many who waut the school to g) there, and they are using all of the elTorts they possess to get Home wood selected as the site . The fertility and drainage in that section is hard to beat from the standpoint of Dature, and then this location would be nearer to the coun i ty seat It will not be long before ^ the qu of location will be deoideu oeiwoon tno two places, and the work of organizing the company, which has already begun, as above stated, will go forward without any unnecessary delay. ri^L. ?- . The name of the corporation will be Horry Industrial School & Land Improvement Company. A rnor.g the powers which will be conferred by its charter will bo the right of course to conduct an industrial school, the primary object of the enterprise, and to buy, sell and improve real estate, conduct different manufacturing and industrial enterprises, and in short eug ige in nearly any business or industry thai may be suited to the nature of the property of the company. The capital stock of the company will be ^ fifty thousand dollars, divided into 500 shares of the par value of one r hundred dollars each. As thirty thousand dollars had already been sub?crlbed at the time of the meeting it is expected that *he entire amount of the capital stock of fifty thousand will have been secured by the time the charter has be,u secured from the Secretary of State Those who own lands in Horry <> ( Our Florida Letter. Dear Mr Editor:?Please give m? space in your dear old Herald for a few lines. Health of our little town is good with few exceptions. Fort Meade is still on a boom. Several new brick buildings are going up daily. The Methodist of this1 town arc now erecting a fine church building, which will add much to tnis place, when completed. Several n'ce little residences are going up now. Mr. Troome White uas just completed his^huube and moved in. Wedding bells are ringing here real often. Mr. J odd white, accompanied by his brother Oliver, has returned home from a visl to Nor tb and South Carolina. There was indeed a very sad ^lo m cast upon the inhabitants o! Fun Meade Tuesday Oct. JOth, wh n the news was spread abroad of ih? d?ath of Mr. iVlilier Booth, one of Fort Meade'3 most promising youcjj men. His death was quite a sue prise to his friends, he bein/jf t iclc only a short time. He held an honorable position with Mr. J W. Keen, one of our merchants until Illd UUU i LI ? , Mr. Booth left satisfactory proof of his happiness in an endless eternity in Heaven above where all is peace and love. Oh we loved him, yes we lovod him, But angels loved him more. He's gone to live with Jesus, Where parting is no more. Doctor Dooly. The monkey that, raak^s the "dip of death" each night at the Wm. Todd show, looping the loop in a small toy automobile designed and made for the purpose, and aho the pack of trained dogs, are exciting ihe interest of many spectators at each of the shows this week. These animals perform each night, while the rest of the program is chang* d. On the opening night the tent was crowded to its full capacity, and some wore seated in the aisles. Deafness Cannot be Cured By local applications, as they cannot reacn the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by cousli tutiouai remedies. ueamees is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sonnd or imperfect hearing, and when it is en tirely closed, Deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can lie taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing wiil be destroyed forever; rine case* out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an i' flamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness caused by catarrh that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for cir culars free. F J Cheney & Co., Toledo O Sold by Druggists, Take Hall's Family Pills for constipation. W H Causey, of Eldorado, was among the fanners visiting Conway last Tuesday. Lie spent some time in the town and returned home in the afternoon. County should not hesitate to sub scribe the funds needed to organize and carry out the enterprise, for it is certain to raise property value? just as .-oon as it is started. The light sand lands in portions of Horn County are coming more into favoi for farming purposes, now that the people have learned more about th?best plans for cultivation, and th( good crops raised this year on sum; of these lands is proof that thes< sand lands are among the very besi lands tnat we have In some coun ties it is said that the cotton farm ers raised from oue to three bales 01 land of exactly the same quality. The charter has been obtained the corporators being the commiUe? mentioned above to secure the charter. The company is authorized ti purchase and deal in and improve real estate; to do farming, stock raising, saw milling, grist milling, ginning, etc; to carry on a mercantile business, to operate a graded school and industrial school, etc Capital stock $50,000. In an interview with the Colum bia representative of the Charlestoi News and Courier, Di* Watson sav> among other things "that it ws? hoped that the. school would attract a high class of permanent resident.1 and that the sale of lands to thesi would repay the money which wouh be laid out iu the erection and equipment of the school itself. At tb* Home wood site a tract of 11000 t< 5000 acres is available. Dr Watsor is very enthusiastic over the proposition, and believes it can bo madi of great value to the section a(T.?3tec from the stardpoint of practical ed ucation as well as of material de velopment.
