An important meeting, well at" t<? idnd, was hold at the rooms of the Wacoamtw Club in the Bmk of Horry building, last Thursday, in relation to the Industiial School and connected enterprise*. It. was a r meeting of the principal subscribers to the capital stock, for the purpose of appointing a committee to apply for a charter, and otherwise to f organize the persons interested into better working shape. Dow Suggs, of Loris S C., were elected by the meeting us a board of corporators, and au thoriz?d to apply at once for a charter for the company. The meeting was first organized by the election of C. Dr. Watson who has been at the head of this movement since its inceptiou is an able executive, fully competent to plan such an enterprise and carry it out to a successful conclusion. Ho ^ is one of the braiuiest man in the South Carolina conference, and he is pushing the matter with all the energy he possesses, * Options were secured recently at two different locations in the county one ot them at Sanford, and the other at Homewood. The bulk of this land at Sanford is owned by Allsbrook Bros., one of the largest and most successful*business and mercantile firms in Horry County They have been located at that point for many years, and they have spent thousands of dollars in im^ provements there, all of which will go to this new enterprise should San ford be selected as its location The price for all of this is teported as being about $.*>0,000 00, for the lund and all of the improvements ou it excepting possible the stock of goods in the store. By many this is regarded as being one of the best propsi tions that could be made to secure the school. Options upon a large acreage has been secured at Homewood, and there are many who waut the school to g) there, and they are using all of the elTorts they possess to get Home wood selected as the site . The name of the corporation will be Horry Industrial School & Land Improvement Company. A rnor.g the powers which will be conferred by its charter will bo the right of course to conduct an industrial school, the primary object of the enterprise, and to buy, sell and improve real estate, conduct different manufacturing and industrial enterprises, and in short eug ige in nearly any business or industry thai may be suited to the nature of the property of the company. The capital stock of the company will be ^ fifty thousand dollars, divided into 500 shares of the par value of one r hundred dollars each. As thirty thousand dollars had already been sub?crlbed at the time of the meeting it is expected that *he entire amount of the capital stock of fifty thousand will have been secured by the time the charter has be,u secured from the Secretary of State Those who own lands in Horry <> ( Our Florida Letter. Keen, one of our merchants until Illd UUU i LI ? , Mr. Booth left satisfactory proof of his happiness in an endless eternity in Heaven above where all is peace and love. Todd show, looping the loop in a small toy automobile designed and made for the purpose, and aho the pack of trained dogs, are exciting ihe interest of many spectators at each of the shows this week. These animals perform each night, while the rest of the program is chang* d. On the opening night the tent was crowded to its full capacity, and some wore seated in the aisles. Magistrate Daniel Grainier was in Conway last Monday and investigated a serious charge brought against Fred Ludlev,a mulatto man. A negro woman, Elneda Fear well, swore out a warrant for his arrest. Upon investigation of the case, the defendant was bound over to the higher court which will convene in February next. Tax Notice. Negro School Building. The colored school building in the western suburos < f the town is now rapily uearing completion. Within the past few weeks the framing has gone up and most of the siding and other outside finishing has been put up, so that passers-by can see what a large and commodious building the trustees have designed and will complete for thea2comm d ition of the colored race The building is located in a high, dry section of the neighborhood, and near the place where three important public roads come together, this building being in a triangular plot of land formed by the three roads.
