Tributes to Mrs James. The respect in which Mrs Jarnes was held is shown by the following, by one < * _ of her school mates, The sad news r of the death of Mrs Cicero F James reached me from her home near Centenary where she has lived since her marriage, This news caused grief throughout the county and < State for she had many friends. To know her was to love her. We know that our loss is Heaven's gain The writer who enjoyed an intimate acquaintance with her for a number of years wishos to express her regret and pay tribute to her virtues. Mrs James was born three miles 1 u.ast or ijatta wnere sne uvea un- ? , til her marriage, She was and ac- ' complished daughter of Mr Hugh G Bryant a gallant confederate | soldier who still survives her. She < was converted and joined Ebenezer M E church Latta circuit in child hood and remained a consistant member until her death. She was a noble Christian young woman, ( took a very active part in church work, taught in Sunday school and was a lover of all good works. She f was an affectionate daughter and a j loving sister. She has successfully ( taught school in Marion and Horry c counties, she being of a quiet and j sweet disposition was loved by all whom kuew her, She was married to Mr C F James a prosperous young farmer Feb. 16th, 1901). His mar- ] riage was a beautifully arranged j home event. In her short but happv marriage life she was a devoted wife 1 and will be greatly missed in her < home. Mr Editor: I am glad to see that I Jno Spivey has cleared himselfof the suspicion that ho had pocketed the interest on the court house funds, but that $4000 00 should have earned some interest and the $0,000 that has been held three or four years | should have earned some. Now, who gets the interest on the public moneys? Does the County Treas- 1 urer pocket it, or does it go into the treasury? Maybe Mr Van Nor- i ton can tell us, as T believe he knows 1 ? more about runniug an office than yf- he does about building public roads, Most people out our way are in favor of good roads aud the bond issue, but some say, "I'm agin kase they won't do it my way, I want all th4 wheels taxed so^hose who wear the roads out will have to pay for them," Another says, "I have done my road woj-k on the roads fnr t.hn hist thirt.v odd vp.ars and I aint gokig to vote to make it any easier for the young fellows who ride around in their buggies. Let thenybuild their own roads. I have had to build mine." Another says, "No, I can't read, but T am agin it. 1 W They will waste the money. The I ) road overseers don't make the hands I do enough work, or do it properly. " Now, of course, a man who has had . no experience in building roads j could waste the money, but the Commission is to have a competent en'"gineer who is to tell what to do, and I believe the bost way to do is to have the roads surveyed and plans and specifications made of what is to bo done, and for the whole job to ^ be let to a contractor ana for the i Supervisor to oversee the job and < see that the contract is filled j They will build twice as much roads ] as the Commission could do and 1 thero would be no claim that anv 1 * ? ?| ?*-?! 4k A M/\nrl /?(> M A A n one was USIUK UIIC muu ^tvuv; as a , political machine.
