H, WOODWARD. Editor THRUSDAY, APRIL 28. 1910. There is no logical reason why Conway should not become the largest freight originating point in Eastern South Carolina. Let us direct our efforts to make it so. We can if we will. Horry offers more inducements to the capitalists and the home seeker than any other county in the State. This can be proven by indisputable evidence. All we ask is an impartial investigation. Commissions appointed by statutory enactment to perform the duties of ar office created by the or ganic law of the State, is an useless appendage, so says the Supreme Court in substance in a recent decision. These commissions may be a very ornamental appendage but they are dear at any price because they are an unnessary luxury, Ifow about a trolly line to Marion built to carry both passengers and freight? Such an enterprise properly promoted would attract home and outside capital. Tt is a foregone conclusion that this line will certainly be built sooner or later. Wise indeed is he who comes in on the ground floor. A word to the wise is sufficient. There's the early morning train the Aynor, the freight, the strawberry, the Myrtle Beach and the afternoon passenger?making six in all, the log trains not included, departing from Conway daily. The same number of trains arrives here daily. If twelve trains arriviog and departing daily is not positive evidence that Conway has a move on and that move is upward, than we frankly confess to being so dense as not to be able to tell the difference between going forward or Bteppiug backward. ? With two commodious tobacco warehouses the coming season Conway will be in a position to offer extraordinary inducements for the growers to make this their selling market. And our merchants will sell goods as cheap, if not cheaper, than the merchants of any other town can afford to soil, hence it will be to the advantage of the grower of the weed to make this their pur chasing market aiso. * Country Cousins, help build up your county seat aud your City Cousins will help develop your resources. People on both sides of the Wuccamaw are becoming restless on account of what appears to them on unreasonable delay in building the bridge across that river at Conway. We have not the remotest idea that the delay arises from carelessness or indilTorenee on the part of the Commission, and we are confident that there is some obstacle in the way which prevents the Commission from doing that which they must realize is for the best interest of a very large per cent of the people of Horry. The Herald lias already called attention to the urgent necessity of a still further and much more important improvement in our passenger service than we now have. The agitation has been commenced and it is gaining strength and momentum all along the line. Tho Herald is glad to bo in a position to inform the people of Horry that the "suggestion" has attracted the attention of the busiuess interest of Wilmington as well as other sections between the two points and an influence has been set in motion which ( c au only result in tho accotnplishnent of the purpose for which it was started, namely?a through passenger train from Conway to Wilmington. The Herald's informatiru is that all classes of busiuess in Wilmington are enthused over the "suggestion" and aro talcing an active part to make it an assured > fact. The Chamber of Commerce has officially recognized tho practicability of the "suggestion " and appreciating its importance and what it means as a potent factor in tho further development of the rich and fertile intermediate territory, have taken it up with tho rail road _ .. j : a ? .1 A. : i people uiju wrgiiu ii?s uuupiaun uy an earnest and strong petition setting forth the great advantages that will result to both the territory affected and the railroad?development of the first and revenue to the latter, and with this tremendous and influential pressure brought to bear upon the railroad, together with such a clear cut business proposition so attractively presented, it is probably that Mr John R Kenly will see his way clear to put on the through passenger as early as practicable. As a matter of course a new aud up-to-date passenger depot in the upper part of Conway will folloyv as a natural sequence. Now that the through train "suggestion'Ms well under way with all probability of being carried to a successful completion, there are several other "suggestions" which we wish to invite the attention of Herald readers who know a good thing when they see it," and have the enterprise to back it up and push it along by their active support and financial backing.
