The Herald is informed bv Mr W. H Chadbouru, who is the father of the lirst railroad that Conway and llorry county ever had, and who has always felt a great interest in the industrial development of this part of the State, that ho has had several talks with Mr Emerson, who is at the head of the Atlantic Coast Lino Kiilroad System, that as soon as the annual meeting of the stockholders of the road has taken place about the last of this vear, he will visit Conway, and if he finds condi t ons here as represented, he will see tuat Conway gets all she is ask iug for. Among the new improvements that will be asked for and granted is a new passenger depot, and next, but not least, the double daily passenger train, which will give Conway quick connectiou with the out-aide world. Mr Chadbourn is now connected with the receivership of the Kanawha Lumber Corporation and has tpent most of his time here lately in relat on to the affairs of this concern. lie returns to his home in W lmint'ton frequently and Wilm ugoon is also the home ot Mr Emerson. He has had many conferenet s with Mr Emerson and other he-ds of the department of t hi.4- system ou the subject of better railroad facilities for Conway, and at 1 ast he has obtained from him and others a promise of something dcfin'ue, Mr Chadbourn says that there ( is no reason in the world why Conway should not have all that she wants, and that Mr Emerson wi;l give it to her just as soon as he understands the situation. The.visit will be made in a private car and the citizens and business men at Conway and along the line should bs prepared to ;ihow what Conway has an l what Conway can promise. Eldorado. The protracted meeting at New Home closed last Sunday night. We had a tine meeting and good attendance I can't say how many c n ersions but five joined the c hurch and were baptized in the r ver at Board Landing last Sunday. We have a very nice Sunday school at New Home and G. W. Sessions is our superintendent. Our box supper at Alligator 01 the 16th proved to be a success. We had good behavior and good attendance. The girls brought two cakes and thirteen boxes and the boys handed in $11.90 so willingly for thern that it looked like we would have taken in a great deal more if we bad had the boxes. But look t \ out boys we are going to give you another chance. There will be another box suppjr at the Alligator S3h >ol house on oaturday night before the first Sunday in November, Boys you are invited to come again with well filled purses and the girh w th boxes and cakes School Children. Florence county, who, it is said, took the prisoner to Florence, where, wo are informed, there is a criminal charge against him in connection with me Handling of some organs for a music company for whom he worked The Ilerald is not informed as to the grounds of this charge. , Mr Prince is weil known in this county, having boen eugaged in ousiuess at Howell, S U., for several years, and before that time at Bayboro. He was a candidate for the House of Representatives in the campaign of 11)1)8. He closed out his business at Howell lust year, and for some time was a travelling salesman for a Wilmington grocery house. After several months he gave up this position for the one he | now holds with the music house. He is a son of R. M, Prince, a leading merchant at Gurly, S, C. Capt Bowles Interviewed. Capt J. R. Bowles, the popular manager of the llurry ToOacco Warehouse, left Monday evening for his home in Danville, Va. The remarkable success attending his connection with the tobacco inarkei here has been very gratifying to his many fricuds. He lias worked diligently for two years to build a mar'kei at the eouuiy seat Lor the llorry planters, In his efforts ho has won rt.be gratitude of the farmers, as! well as the business people of the town. Capt Bowles was asked ou leay ing, when he expected to return. 'Twill be back in the early spring of next season. You can announce to my friends aud me tobacco planters that I will be here before the season opeus, and be ready for business at the same old stand. My lease contract for the Horry Warehouse does not expire until next year, with an option for a longer period," "We will bo prepared to take care of all the weed planted in Horry next year. Arrangements are made whereby the capacity of our house will be increased to accommodate every farmer and handle their trade with dispatch. I expect to have a full set of buyers representing the large tobacco companies of the woild. as well as several srood inde psndent buyers. "From now until next spring 1 will be at Danville, Va; wnere I will be in touch with the leading markets, and keep fully posted as to grades and prices. It will be a pleasure to me to answer any com munication, or give any information desired by any tobacco planter relative to planting, cultivating, curing and marketing. In the meantime we will furnish free seed to anyone wishing them. "I wish to take this opportunity of thanking my many friends for the patronage given me since here. If they will continue this patronage we propose to make Conway market equal to that of any in eastern South Carolina." A Clean Show One of the cleanest and best shows that ever came to Conway was Howe's Great London Shows which gave two performances here last Saturday. Conway u a good town for a show, the people always turning out in large numbers, and Sat i urdav was no execution t.o t.lm mln .(There was a large crowd in town very early in the day and the show was well patronized at both performances. Howe's London Shows is not the largest show on the road but in the j matter of attractions and program, j it has some of the vci y best that \a to be had in the world. The t quipmeut was hauled in on two train-., u total of fourteen cars. They had many wild animals including a herd , of elephants aud many well trained horses. There were many attractions (lis played in the rings, and among thern perhaps the three little Japanese acrobats were the most taking, . They are three little boys'who eer talnly can perform feats of strength and daring that almost look impos[ sible until you see it done One ol them especially in his balancing j feats took down the house. In Mr Williams' It tier, he says: "1 appreciate tlm interest you are taking in trying to introduce into your county bettor methods of agriculture and will do what I can for you in introducing the work iuto your county." Col Watson says in his letter, "You know I am only too anxious to do anything that 1 can, particularly on your own acc mat if there were not the broader reason for bringing about, as quickly as possible, the full agricultural development of Horry county. I have already spoken to the Washington ofli. e in regard to this matter, and am very hopeful that Pi of Wilhams will be allowed to attempt some work in your county this season." Communications have been addressed to the proper authorities by the officers of the Partners' Union a-king that this agency beestablishe.l here. Ir. their urgent appeal they say: "We submit that our county is one of the most important agricultural sections of the State, having some of the most fertile soil anywhere to be found. Ordered to Show Cause* The purchaser of the plant of the Kanawha Lumber Company has oeon ordered to show cause by Judge Pritchard why they have not complied with the terms of sale. The Herald is informed that the delay in complying with the terms was caused by necessary investigations which the attorneys for the purchaser had to make in regard to the title. Attorneys for the our chaser have been at work here for some time investigating the title to the timber lands. There is something short about the jury ststem because it is a system provided by imperfect men. But it has behind it the wisdom and experience of the ages and is therefore to be counted as the best plan of a trial of a m in bv his fellows. No matte what new plan should be invented it will necessarily have to do with the same men who draw and compose the juries now. Men, whether on a jury or concerned with ton.cubing ehe, generally do what they believe to be right under all circumstances. Benton, of Wampee, are visiting friends and relatives at Buck Creek, Miss Jessie Core, of Wampee, visited relatives at Longs recently. We are having a good school at, Ebont/.er now. M. M. Stanley is oir teacher. Walter Core passed through here I recently ou his way to visit Soth Bellamy, near the month of Buck Creek. The protracted meeting has just closed and we had a good meeting. Farmers, generally, are in pretty good circumstances. Tobacco has sold fairly well and cotton extremely well. Old Horry seems to be stepping on higher stones. She will soon be one of the leading counties in the State. Wo want to see Conway wake up and get to work*. Lets have a cotton mill in Conway Conway is the proper place for it. It would mean prosperity for our county seat and the county at large. No deaths to report at present. Mr C. T. Session was happily married to Miss Glen Anderson recently.
