H, W001>\VAIU>, Krtilor THURSDAY, OCT 21, 1909 i . j ... y .i x Watch Conway grow. The growth of Conway is evident from the fact that there is not a vacant cottage within the limits, and uotwithstanding that building is constantly going on the demand exceeds the supply. Horny got a large slice of the $20, 000 00 appropriated bv the Slate. to help weak schools, but she did not get any more than she deserves. This means longer terms and more eftieient service. ? ? Parties interested in the new tobacco warehouse project are still at work on it and the indications are that by the time the next crop of tobacco is ready for market Conway will have two warehouses in full operation * If the Kanawha Lumber plant is moved to Ay nor, as reports say it will b?, the business interest of Conway will receive a blow straight from the shoulder. Wisdom suggest that we ''make hay while the sun.. U *. .. ' ' I : -- ' 11 ' 1 niiiiiusi, uy lnsiuning a conon seta oil mill plant. While we are at it why not lay the entire streets of Conway with concrete pavements. This can be easily accomplished by the city bearing one half the expense and. the property owners the other half This wil, prove a paying in vestment for both the city and property owners The manner in which some of the young bloods about town cruelly beat and lash their "plugs" and un mercifully drive them under the de lusiou that they are cutting a swell calls for the organization of a soceitv for the prevention of cruelty to animals. If a doso or so of their own medicine were administered to on< or two of them this inhuman prac lice would soon stop. Preprafcions on a large scale are being made by the Board of Trade of Florence for the edification and entertainment of President Tuft, when ho reaches that city next month. One of the most prominent features of the occasion boing the wining and dining of the Chief Executive of the United States, The Atlantic Coast Line has granted the concession of a low rate for the round trip, and the probability is tint an immense crowd will b present. *. We aelfnn wlpdc/A wntll ill a r?Ire nn invitation to be present as tb< guest of the city of Spartanburg at the barbecue to be given in connection with the celebration of the completion of the Carolina, Clinchheld and Ohio Railroad to that city, Octoocr 21) th, 1909. On account cl pressing business at the Court-o of Common Picas, which will be it sessions here at that time, it is not probable that wc can be present However, we appreciate tin thoughtfulness of the committee o arrangements, and wish them all th* joy and pleasure attending such oc casions. Great interest is being taken ii the Farmers Union, an organiza tion which has for its object th< protection of the farmers in tb< marketing of their crops, Tbero is now a Union in full working ordei in nearly every section of thecounty In Ibis connection it may be well t< call the attention of the truckers t< jjfC the necessity of having a responsi ble and trusted representative ii the place where they ship their pro ducts. Under the present systeii the commission merchant has th< grower at a disadvantage and if h< fe,; bo dishonest he can cheat or sfcea to the amount he desires and no one will be any the wiser. ? ? ^ Come. youVo the doctor, Which shall it he, Costlvenerfl, constipation, or p Hoiltutor'a Rocky Mountain Tea? Conway Drug Co. Feeding Farm Hands. Every farmer's wife knows what tremendous appetites farm hands usually have; but while they eat well they work well, too. Hero's u pood suggestion about feeding farm hands. (Jive them plenty, of Quaker Oats. A big dish of Quaker Oats porridge with sugar and cream or milk is the greatest breakfast In the world for a man who needs vigor and strength for a long day's work. The man that eats Quaker Oats plentifully and often is the man who docs good work without excessive fatigue. Thoro is a sustaining quality In Quaker Oats not found in other foods, and for economy it is at the head of the list. To meet needs of thoso in different climates Quaker Oats is packed in regular size packages and hermetically sealed tins; the latter for hot climates. 5 HOW A CIRCUS HELPS BUSINESS WITH LOCAL STORKS. It Takes a Vast Amount of Mono to Feed tlio Animals Ilijr Money Left In Town. That it does local merchants some good to havou big circus like lio we's Great London Shows come to to A n is amply evidenced by the largo con4 n n ri 4 o in nrl a l\u 1 Ann 1 /I nn Inn o 4- n 1 i\\t iciv. luaviv: uy iuv ai ucuiv>i o iuv?ay , It takes money to run a great show and it takes a vast amount of material to feed employees and animals. Circus people live well, and only the best of everything is used in the commissary department. That a big shovv leaves a liberal lump of money in a city at times is evident from the contracts made here. To a local colTee firm the mammoth order for 800 pounds of colTee was given. From an equally well-known grocery house $200 worth of grocer- ! ies was contracted, two hundred and fifty pairs of shoes were added to the commissary wagon. An order of $225 alone went to one butcher.. Several hundred loaves of bread feed the hungry maws of the circus people daily, and these too, come from local bakers. Seventy-five quarts of milk from the dairies, hay, oats straw and a host of other necessaries were purchased in the city. The money carried out of town by a circus is the extra money brought by excursionists who come to the show. The money received from town people is more than offset by the sums paid out here for supplies and other needed expenses.
