Dear Editor: There has been so' much said lately about the Sunday tram that I have decided that it is a horrible looking thing. Some calls it the "Devil's Flying Angel" (that gives me to understand that the devil has angels that walks orcrawls or hops), llow is it that some people who claim to be very good assist the young people in giving ice cream suppers, Sunday ice cream and other frolics that leads to ruin on account of the mingling of the sexes 111 a way that causes them to disrespect to each other and be altogether too i intimate in many ways, and then cry down something that don't concern them? There are too many people alI v. avs ready to try to look after some i ~,l.. ..I.. V. i : i ?-J. ii -: ihjuj ciai; s uuauifOH aim lei, men' own aloi e. 1 have now nn orphan girl from a Savannah home where she a'aid four years, and she says she fares much better with me than she did in the home, hut some of my smart, friends have begun to dictate to me what 1 must do and how 1 must manage. 1 only hear these things h r such dirty mugwumps won't go to your face knowing that they cannot tell a falsehood to your face and get off with it, neither can i hey pick up courage to try to manage vour family affairs openly. Such people are beneath the notice of decent people. Some people here have a knack of picking at me because I don't take part in their frolics such as selling suppers,at churches, school houses and other schemes to raise money, as well as going to weekly frolics, Sunday ice creams, etc. Houses of worship are not intended for gamblng dens and when 1 go to one 1 go there to hear the word of God pleached and not to sell suppers, tell coon stories or hear some man get up and splutter over some deed of other men's good work. I want to see his work right. Lot the other lellow's a'one always. We have got hundreds of devils whose names are on the church hooks and other places where they should not he, and why is it? Be cause too many people are looking after somebody else's business ami not thoir own. There has been ti train rui ning by my place for foui years on Sunday, but J never ride on it. 1 have a better use for monej than to throw it away so foolishly But I would ten times rather tuk< , my family for a ride on the Sundu> ( train than to a supper selling schenu 11 think everybody should thinl enough of their maker to give par of their labor to his cause and no make a mockery of it by selling g schemes where nobody is out any K thing t)ii?s leaving nothing for th | Master to bless them for. We hav I always had and always will have H a class of people who think the | can't do wrong and what they d I has got to be right, but every san | person knows that everybody doe S wrong. Dear Editor: As 1 have not seen anything in your columns from the ''Land of Flowers" lately, I will ask your indulgence for a few lines. The health of this neighborhood is good at this writing. We have been having phnty of Tain, and better than all the rest, the finest crops that has ever been seen in this neighborhood, corn esspecially and a mighty line crop of oranges. What in the world is some of the people thinking about writing so much about the Sunday train? If any cue wishes to go to the beach on a railroad truin and spend the day on Sunday and the company is willing to run the train, I cannot see why thoie who do not wish to go should have so much to say about it. 1 think some of the correspondents are little oft', especi lly calling the train the ''Devil's flying Angel" and Myrtle Beach "Hell." If all goes to hell who ride on a Sunday train there will be lots of lost people for all over (ieorgta and Florida the railroads run regular schedule trains and I think that is just what you all need. So le s write about something else. Tell us about your crops and haw your hogs are looking and if your ma's hens are laying much? Tsow. say! how are times with you all? Times are getting some better out here now. There is plenty of work and plenty of money to pay for it. Mr It L Smith, of Seville, was seen on our streets a few days ago. Mr . Smith made a good argument before the Hoard in presenting the . resolution and since the matter has come uo there has been ouito a lot I of comment in the news papers, * The resolution failed and only had H e votes in the body. The following ft item in reference to this matter a appeared in the "Columbia State" y in its issue of July 2nd. 0 There was considerable interest e amonj,' mill men and others in the resolution introduced bv Mr .TeremiahSmith at the meeting of the J State board of equnl:zi*ion which e would have resulted in all property K being assessed at its "actual value n jnstead of on a 60 per cent basis. > Smith also proposed that the members use their influence with o various county boards for tin t?bir.e purpose. soThis matter has been recommend od a number of times by Comptrollei General jjnes both to the Stat* boards and to the general assembly le the position being taken by hin that an>thfng less that an assessment of true value of property wa unconstitutional. is nMr T 0 White, the general ticke )n agent of the Atlantic Coast Lint has within the month paid Conwa several visits and by his kindnes ? and attention to passengers ha made himself very popular with th patrons of the road on this end < ~ the line I Notice.
