Wo, the Grand jury of Elorry Countv bc^ leave to make this our final presentment: Wc have passed upon all bills handed us by tho Solicitor at this term of the court. At the spring term we appointed a committee from our body to examine into the various county offices and ro]>ort to our body at this term Their report is hereto attached, marked ''Exhibit A." and mado a part of this report. We recommend that tho County Auditor require all landowners in the county to list each tract separately in making returns of real estate. We recommend that the Solicitor be required to show cause whv tho - V proper attention has not (as we view it) been given the matter of the shortage of the late r?. I). Hong, former County Treasurer. ''KXHIHIT A." To the Honorable, the Grand Jury of Horry County. Gentlemen: We, your committee appointed at the Spring Term of the Court to examine the various county offices and report the result of our examination to your honorable body, beg leave to submit the following: Owing to serious illness in the family of one of our members we were unable to meet earlier than the Gth of September, at which time we met and examined the various offices in the order named: COUNTY JAIL. We find the jail fairly well kept, We find however that stock are kept in the jail yard, and we recommend that this practice be discontinued. Dl.tRK III'' COURT. We find this office well, and neatly kept and everything in good condition. All money in Clerk's hands projKjrly accounted for. .111OO K OF PROBATE. We find this olfice well and neatly' kept and everything in good shape. COUNTY SUPERVISOR. We made thorough examination of this olfice. We find all checks against the ordinary county funds supported by proper vouchers. Wo note that large sums of money are charged to the roads and bridge account and also to the account of the county eluiingang; Notwithstanding this and the number of persons in the county liable to road duty, we find the roads and bridges of the county generally in bad condition. We recommend that the county supervisor require of every overseer in the county that they work the full number of days in their respective sections. We further recommend that the Hoard of County Commissioners approve no claims for materials furnished or labor performed on any of our public highways until the county supervisor shall certify to the Board that to his own certain knowledge the supplies have been furnished or the labor performed and that the same is reasonably worth the amount|claimed and that no moneys be paid cut on any section for labor of any kind until all hands on such section of road have performed the full service on said section required of them by law. We lind the books in the Supervisor's office well and neatly kept. COUNTY AUDITOR. We find this ollice in good shape. The Auditor is somewhat behind with his work at this time, owing to the unusual amount of work devolved upon him this year in listing real estate Ac. COUNTY TREASURER. We find the Treasurer's ollice in good shape and all funds properly accounted for. We recommend that our delegation in the General Assembly secure the passage of an Act increasing the County Treasurer's bond to Thirty Thousand (30, 000,00) Dollars. SHERIFF. Wo find this ollice in good shape. It appears that the Sheriff's bond is insullicieut awing to the recent death of one of hi9 official bondsmen, and we recommend that he be required to execute a new bond to bo approved by the Solicitor and Hoard of County Commissioners iu the usual form. UUttUWUR, We find this olficc in good shapo and the books well and properly kept. COUNTY 8UPEKTENDENT OF EDUCATION. We did not make a full examination of this oilicc; but it appeals to be well kept and in good shape. Your committee secured J. N, Jenrette to assist them in their labors and reocommend that he be paid the sum of $5,00 for his services. Respectfully submitted, H. W. Mishoc T. J. Vaught C. Z. Enzor Committee. I Chew What You I Know What Yo There is real pleasure in chewing the best tobacco grown?where the best tobacco grows?in the famous Piedmont Country. Only choice selections of this well-matured and thoroughly cured tobacco is used in making SCHNAPPS. That's why SCHNAP1 3 and others of the Reynold's brands, as shown by the Internal Revenue statistics for a fiscal year, made the wonderful growth of six and onequarter million pounds, or a net gain* of one-third of the entire increased consumption of chewing and smoking tobaccos in the United States. Evidently, chewers cannot resist the flavor and they cheer SCHNAPPS because SCHNAPPS cheers them more than any other chewing tobacco, and every man that clicwo SCHNAPPS passes the good thing along?one chewer makes other chewers?until the fact is now established that there are many more X Sold at 50c. per pound l:i 5c. SCHNAPPS is like a cup of fine Java coffee, sweetened just enough to bring out its natural, stimulating qualities. SCHNAPPS pleases all classes of chewers: the rich, because they do not find a chew that really pleases them better at any price; the poor, because it is more economical than "the large 10c. or 15c. plugs and they get their money's worth of the real snappy, Affiliating flavor so appreciated tobacco lovers.
