The health of the neighborhood is i generally good at present, The measles have subsided around hero at last. We are having very dry and hot weather just now. When will it rain? is the question among the farmers. Rain is badly needed to bring up late planting Corn seems to be doing fairlv well, but cotton is reported doing badly. The Tilly Swamp school will close on next Wednesday with an entertainment at night, commencing at 8:30. Among the young people there were about eight or ten professions. The dispensary law is a good law if it is properly enforced. The spit it of the law is right but the sl?.<_k management of it caused us to lo. < confidence in the system and \\t voted it out. We need a law that i will completely control the sale of whiskey. Better still we rather have prohibition but all reasonable thinking people know it is impracticable. I heard a good preacher say last summer, I can't vote against the dispensary because It controls an evil in our midst, is a State law and all good citizens should be loyal to our State laws. I thought at the time he was insane but after thinking about it for over a year I find the preacher was very near right. Mr. and Mrs. J. P Ray of Zoan. are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Porter. I am reallv glad to see Uncle Ned improving so fast as to bo making invitations. He also asks to hea? from some goOi* man on the sale of cider, flood men arc not apt to meddle in such things but 1 will venture to say, enforce the dispensary law. Times are lively here and wages high. Strawberries arc over for the season. Some of you Horry boys come over to the Land of Flowers and we will go to the Gulf and to the Everglades and kill deer and bears, wild cats and turkevsand most anvthintr. You know this is a beautiful country but South Carolina looks #ood to mo. I see a lot oi quarreling goin# on through the paper.
