Ttrven Sou, > On Sunday July 9th Miss Loito Grantor and Mr. Walter Whttting- a ton wore united in marriage. At 11 a. in , when the words of roudl- t ness wore given four couples of waiters preceded them to the parlor \ followed by the bride and groom j when S. D. Bryant, Notary PubliCT^ soon announced them man and wif?C^ Soon after tho marriage we wori^ invited to tho dining room where ' we fouud turkey, ham, ehioken atxlS, almost any quantity, kind and quality of bread suitable for the refreshment of the Innerman, and a host of us enjoyed it. Miss Granger is the accomplished daughter of Mr. Levi Granger of Green Sea and Mr. Whittington is the industrious son of Mr. C G. Whittington formerly of Marion county but now of Green Sea. On Saturday July Hth, there was a social entertainment at the residence of I). K. McGougan and all who participated therein enjoyed a very pleasant evening. We are pleased to r e p o r t some very nice crops of cotton, corn and tobacco in our community. At present our soil is very thirsiy and rain is seemingly needed, but nothing damaging so far my observation roaches. Tho extensive rains of May seem to have exhausted the nitrogen in fertilizers as wo notice some cotton having 400 to 500 lbs of fertilizer have thrived equal to other lots that have 1200 p >unds or more per acre. Probably the dif* I- ?!.... t Uaiii.I. . ierence comes mi cuim\iiiiiiK mui^u I)oci. has cultivated bis well enough. The school building at (Ircen Sea under contract of G. K. Editor Herald:?As much is being said about the dispensary in dill'crcnt parts of the county, please-Adlow me spaco in your paper to ex press our sentiments from this section. There is no dispensary near us wo are glad to say, but we have seen enough of its evils to have our feel ings aroused on this subject. We believe the uispensary to bo the greatest curse ill Horry county. We believe it to be (the greatest enemy of the church of Jtlod, and think now ic Mm I i inn f#?i- nlxumU ........ I...? * ' v t ??j v- n/i V> I U J V IIUI Ul IIIVIIllM I of all denominations to come together and vote this dp'cat evil from our county. T The dispengafy is a trap to ensnare our land, and for their safety all christian parents should do all in their power to suppress the liquor trallic, which is ruining body and soul for time and for eternity. They should by example and (pre cept, aid in restraining those with whom they come in contact from evils that are destructive to the physical, moral and spiritual welfare They should see to it that nothing which mars defiles and destroys God's templo should receive support and encouragement at their hands. There are some peoplo who advoi cate the dispensary, because of the great profits derived from it that go to tho public schools. In many counties, we believe that tho profits derived from the dispensaries amount to but little more (if any) than the cost of prosecuting criminals for crimes that were com "butted by men in a state of intoxica B^ tion. Hotter a thousand times, that parents should tax themselves to erect suitable buildings and employ their own teachers for the education of their children, than that they should share in the revenue which is the price of blood bouurht souls. The Queen of Madagascar said, "1 caanot consent to take revenue from that which destroys the souls and bodies of my people.'' An Emperor of China said, "It is ntajy. IeaanotLprovont the introduc tionoTthe flowing poison, gain seeking and corrupt men will for profit and sensuality defeat my wishes; but nothing will induce me to derive a revenue from the vice and misery of inv pcoplo." There are other men, who say that they support the dispensary because "we can't have prohibition. " Every man who votes for the disponsary is morally responsible for his part of all the crimes resulting from the sale of whiskey in the dispensary. It is not a question of whether "prohibition prohibits" or not. No sane man wishes the laws of murder and tfreft repealed, though there is abundant evidence that they do not entirely "prohibit." The voter is not responsible for the "blind tigers," but he is directly responsible for the dispensary. " "Not by my vote," these words answer every argument on the (pies Hon.
