THURSDAY MAR. 2nd 1005. Eldorado. Tho farmers are very busy after the cold weather has passed off. We were glad to read tho dots from Forney in tho last issue S. A. Gore is talking of going to Floriflu. J. R. Anderson went to Sidney; N. C., recently on business. Frank Fowler of Shell, was here last Sunday. Sharpy. IMscah. Our free school closed at this place on the 9th inst., under the care of Willie Lewis. We can recommend Mr. Lowis to any school as a good teacher. I must airrcc with tho correspondent at Virgo about the public schools of our county. If three or four of our school houses were done away with and only one built instead there would be but very few children that would not have the opportunity of an education. I say let's build more school houses instead of doing away with some of them. G. W. Poplar. The health of this section is improving at this writing. The small pox is about done. There wa3 only three cases hero last week, instead of four. It was nothing more than chicken pox. Some of the truckers here expect to try tho bean business here this spring. Beans hore lawt year was a complete failure. Our up-to-date blacksmith has made some additional improvements to his dwelling which add much to the appearance. The Rev Mr. Davis filled his regular appointment here last Sunday and there was a large attendance. Tho writer wishes to obtain some information concerning the culture and marketing of broom corn, and also the kind of soil best adapted for its cultivation. Mrs. Spears of Ilomewood, was here last Friday visiting hcrdaught er, Mrs. J. T. Hux. We certainly appreciate reading the "Herald." It is a welcome visitor here ovcry Thursday. Some in other sections say it is no more than chicken pox and some cases in this ?section aro not so bad. but a few of -pur citizous who have hau it will tell you that if it is tho chicken pox it is a terribly bad kind. Messrs. J. V. Stephens, Preston Skipper and Cloveland Miskoe, who were witnesses in the McDaniels case returned from Conway o#n Wednesday night of last week Some of our farmers are turning the soil for another crop. B. P. Harrelson returned from court last Saturday. Miss Daisy Stephens entered the Sandy Plains school on last Monday. L. C. Ward visited in the Galivants Forry section last Sunday. L. M. Wliito visited relatives and friends around Spring Branch last Sunday. Wc hope that the small advance in the price of cotton near planting time will not overcomo our farmers and cause them to plant really more than they had intended. The Rooth school came to a close on the 28d after a successful term of four months taught by Miss Mantle* Graham. About noon the parents and friends began to gather up to the school house with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. They were mot and welcomed by the teacher and the pupils. The children were marched into the school room, the parents and friends followed, and when all were seated, the children recited their speeches and dialogues as follows: "Words of Welcome," by Bessie Ludlam. - "What They Say," by Loula John*. "If I Were You," by Pearce Cart rette. "Jack Frost and Tom Buddy," by Jvnic and Allen Booth. "The Young Soldior," by Julia Ludlam. "Little Maiden," by Ada Dorsey. "When I am Old like Grandma,' by Ellen Ludlam. Recitation, by Arthur Dorsey. "Morning Prayer," by Stanley Ludlam. Recitation, by Ruth Cartrctte. Recitation, by Julian Cartrctte. A Dialogue by 6 girls. "Vacation is Timely," by Tom Cartrctte. After this the teacher gave the children a good lecture. Then she called on Mien Booth, Julian Cartrette and Arthur Dorsey to carry around the candy. So the Booth school came to a close. Mf. M. Booth, G. C. Hardee, and G. W.
