Martin, preached an eloquent sermon last Friday evening at Conway Baptist church. J. II. Gore of the Hickman section of our county has been appointed a notary public by Governor Lleyward. II. N. Sessions announces himself in this issue as a candidate for probate Judge. He will .nuke a good oflicer if elected. A movement is on foot to estab lish ft dispensary in the town of Loris. The Parsonage Aid Society gave a dinner last Monday at Hyman's lee Cream Parlor, the proceeds to go for the benefit of the Methodist parsonage. A boy was rur. over in the street by a horse and buggy on 3rd Avenue last Monday at a place where the street was crowded. He was more frightened than hurt, though considerably shaken up. Court convened at 10 o'clock on Monday morning, Judge Town send presiding Solicitor J. M. Johnson and F F. Covington, court stenographer, were both present, to attend to their duties. Witnesses were sworn for the grand jury in several cases. The judge delivered an able charge, in winch he impressed upon the grand jury the great need of a new* and up-to-date court house ior the coun ty; The ease of the State vs. Zadw Uutlkin was then called, ii having been continued frotn the last teiin. BufTkin plead his* own ease. Jury returned a verdict of guilty of assault and battery of a high and ag grevated nature. $25, or 20 (.lays. The grand jury returned a true bill against Frank Johnson for for gery. The court took recess for din ier? to racot again at 3 o'clock. The grand jury returned no bill in the case of the State vs. Ed. L. Moore. Frank Johnson was sentenced to one year in the reformatory for forgery. Another charge against the same defendant was continued. The State vs. James Grissctt was nol prossed on terms. A true bill was returned in the State vs. C. 11. Calder, and his case was continued until Tuesday. TUESDAY. The State vs. Henry and William Hardee- for larceny of live stock was settled upon payment of costs. The gran.I jury returned true bills in indictments'-against A. A. Turner, C. A. Causey, J. C. King and J. II. Mew. C. H. Calder was tried for larceny oi live stock, round guilty and sen teneed to 12 months in the chain tftwg The Stale vs. J. L. Owens, J, C. King and J. II. Mow was continued.
