On last Friday the roof of the jail caught on tire from a spark, it is supposed from the northern chimney, and almost everybody in the lower end of town gathered at the jail yard in some alarm. No ladder could be found long enough to reach the liie and a hole was made through the roof from the garret. The Fire was, soon completely extinguished and the damage repaired in a very few hours. I A Thief Escapes. A slick thief made good use of his shrewdness one day last week to escape from the clutches of our town marshal, Mr. W. M. Parker.
