The nominee for Governor in New York will be named by Senator Piatt, and will be pledged to nullify the franchise tax law. It was for this purppge that Roosovclt was forced to run for \'iec President. Corporations in which Senator Piatt owns stock arc compelled to pay large sums under this tax. Possibly this may explain why Piatt wanted Roosevelt out of the way. A Rkimjhmcan judge in Kentucky has recognized the validity of one of Taylor's pardons and has turned loose a man against whom there was the strongest evidence of complicity in the murder of Goebel. This is the first time that a court has recognized a pardon issued to a man for a crime before he h.-.il been convicted. Hon. R. H. Scarborough delivered an address yesterday at Scran ton where he was invited by a commit too r?f tlw> ? Tr' ?.. uuaim'M men. 11 is prospects for success in the congressional race are very encouraging and they grow brighter as the campaign advances. The p-'ople-of the district will at once see his ability and fitness for the position he seeks when they hear his speeches on the stump and compare them with those of his competitors. To know liiin is to be his friend. The Farmers' Institute which will be held here sometime in August should be well attended by the farmers of the county. The local committee should if possible fix the date at a time when the crops arc laid by and the farmer has a period-of comparative leisure, and to this end should confer with some of the farmers over the county, and ascertain the time best suited for the purpose. There is u oe a series of lectures on subjects pertaining to agriculture | wliich will be highly Instructive and j - the farmer will gain new ideas which ( will be of service to him in his occu- ' pation. The success of the institute ' depends entirely upon the interest ' the farmers take in it. We hope \ the farmers generally will attend it. < ; < Was It A Miracle? * "The marvelous cure of Mrs. Rena J.
