We learn that the postoffice at Vardello has been discontinued, or rather, the postmaster has moved away, and not made any provision for the continuance of the office. We liope that the citizens of that neighborhood will petition for some good man who is willing and competent to attend to the office properly and have him appointed postmaster. 0 There is more joy in a printing office over one sinner who pays in advance and abuses the editor on every occasion, than over the ninety and nine who borrow the paper anil sing its praises without contributing h cent to keep it out of the poor house. Editor IIouky IIkuald: Ever since Mr. Ceorgo Prince's communication, in regard to tho dispensary law, appeared in your valuable columns, we have anxiously waited to see something from our ltopiesentatives. We did think they would clear up their side of the matter in some way or another; hut alas! they tire as silent as a brazen statue. Did not the people of South Carolina vote for Prohibition? Yes, a majority of nine thousand of South Carolinas wl^ito voters said at the ballot box that they wanted total prohibition. And what has our Legislature given us? A whiskey monopoly which they claim is prohibitory. We cannot see any feature of Prohibition in it. The Legislature of South Carolina has taken hold of the devil's work and has at templed to accomplish lor him tlio the very tiling ho lias been working for, ever since old Adam was created, viz: to make grog-shop and whiskey soiling, a lucrative and honorable business. Now, Mr. Editor, does this not place our representatives in an awkward and inconsistent position? How can the same fountain send forth both bitter and sweet waters? How can a member of a Christian Church endorse the soul destroying monster HUM. Hut I do not mean just now to argue whether the dispensaiy law is right or not?that is not my purpose in this letter. In only wish to know why some of onr members of the Legislature do not defend it, so that if there is any consistency in church people drinking dispensary liquor anu pouring it down the throats of their children, we may know it; and, if there is not, let them come up like men and confess their guilt in working for such an iniquitous hill. If it is right for members of the church to engage in the business of making a monopoly of whiskey, and, if by all the church members going into it, the crime and disgrace attached to it can be destroyed, then let us have our boards of Trustees constituted boards of control and run a barroom for the support of the church. If it is no harm to pay our "taxes with whiskey money, it is no harm to run a dispensary to pay our preacher. Now 1 w'sh to say to ?l.n .i:..:..?:-i?> - - mu <iioiiij<^uihih'u Jtepresentnii ves of I lorry: You do i.ot owe a solution of the mutter to Mr. Prince or to myself alone luit to the people of llorry County.
