I have refcreuee to that of pnriiality for persons who are, by the world, esteemed rich or great. Sow, we need not be surprised to Iti the children of this world coart ing the smileu of the wealthy, for there ail worship at one shrine. But it ti sorprisiBg to see n minister of that Gospel which declares that, “God hath chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, ami heirs of the kingdom which be hath promised to tthem that love Him,” thna manifest a similar spirit to that which is mani hated by the devotees of wealth. Mat' such ia nevertheless the truth. I have aeea ministers treat wealthy pmsas with the moat profound re •pert, and be all attention to them, : tad st the same time pass members ■et their own chnrch by with silent ■IuiHfonsni, just because they hap pened to be in moderate rircnm tiances in the world. Such conduct evisec* a narrow, contracted diapoai- l*oo of heart, which is anything but commendable. It is just the oppo site of what we are taught by the precept* and example of onr Sarioor, who always preferred the meek and lowly to the great and affluent. How then, shall we recon cile these two opposite dispositions! Mnst we not conclude that the «e ti earthly, senanal, and utterly unworthy a minister of the Gos- pri of peace T This is my view of foe subject. Now thoee ministers who are thus disposed to treat lightly those in the humbler walks of Bfo should remember that these are foe person, that support our minis- tew, build oar churches, found oar 00, teg*s and theological seminaries; in short, they are the pillars of the church of God, and take a prominent psrt ia all that pertains to the good of oar holy Zion. Now, let all who have hitherto been disponed to esteem lightly the poor, wfiect for a moment upon the amount of iajury they are doing the chnrch by this coarse of conduct. Persons •re naturally very sensitive on that ■abject, and very soon see the line of distinction drawn; they become disemusged in well doing, and soon perhaps fall an easy prey to the Fwr Simplify fig PateaLs.
