" The stork has been busy, for during 1908 there were 126,863 births, a rate of 28.68 pftr^ljOOO, which far outstrips the death rate. It is the highest percent age of births in the lait ten years, Dr. Darlington says. He admits that Cupid has not been so busy this year, as the total number of marriages was 47,490, a decrease of 3,598 over last year. The deaths from spinal meningitis are 778 under the avernge; ap poplexv, 1,116; scute bronchitis 735; pneumonia, 2,323; bronchial pneumonia, 149; accidents, 802. The decrease in the deaths of ohildren under 5 years from the yearly average of the last five years was 3,015. The decroase of deaths of persons of 05 years or over was 99G. The "total de orease from the average of the last five years was 9,249. There were four, diseases the death roll of which showed! an incroasa over the averages of five* veurs.
