The verdict in tho famous ' Brickman case has been paid at last. Clerk of the Court Tate on last Saturday received a voucher from the Southern railway for ,524.95 and promptly deposit ed the same in the Loan and Sav ings bank. The voucher repre sented $40,000 of verdict, a little over 4,000 of interest and the balanco costs. The annual entertainment of the Timrod Literary Society of the Camden Graded school will be given at the Opera House to morrow night. The program is elaborate, and the exercises will surpass any previous effort of tlie managers. They will consist of innsic, de bates, declamations and reading. One feature, the Sougs of all iMations, to be participated in by a chorus of fifty voices will be especially fine. The committee on award of medals consists of Messrs. E. C. von Tresckow, Li. T. School Closings, The annual vacation of teachers and scholars of our city schools, tho factory and Malvern Hill will begin practically 011 June 1st. The closing .exercises of the white schools are in progress to day at the Opera House. Rev. John Kershaw is lo deliver the annual address to tho patrons and pupils, and will deliver the medal to tho honor graduate of the high school course. Rev. C. C. Herbert, chairman of the com mitto appointed for that pur pose, will deliver the medal to the writer of the best original composition during the year. The closing exercises of the Jackson school were held last night at the? school building. Those of Mather Academy will be held to-night at Trinity M. E. church. The diplomas will be presented by Rev. J. li. Taylor. and the annual address delivered by Prof. Irven Gar laud Perm, of Atlanta, Ga. There are three graduates this year at this School; M. Smith has re turned from the meeting of the grand lodge of Kivghts of Pythias at which meeting he was elected Grand Vico Chancellor.
