It treats of the inanT^^'Jvanceinents of the d^TOTTveomecrs South Carolina, whieh is well worth the time it will take to peruse it. For this piece of work, The Slate certainly deserves credit and commands the comm.nidation of all fair minded citizen-.. The election is over and we have no fault to liiul with the choice mail * by tin* voters of Huteshurg in selecting tlieir oliicers for the etisueing term. They are all, so far as our knowledge extends. high-minded gentlemen, qualified to till satisfactory the ollice tlie}' have been elected to. Tliiboweve", we could have said, had others, who were in the race for the dillerent ollices, been elected. We can say with (insistency that there were in the race nie'i who were not elected, who could have been well intrusted with the charge of municipal alfairs, in no wise to their detriment. We congrat-I ulntc the city in its selection, and we further congratulate litem on having sui li a lot of good men from whom to select tlieir c tlieers. If it l?, at all election?, as i; was at the last one, only good men in the race, we will never have any ftnrof the results. ICIKAI, MAIL Dlllil VKHY. ( Our Utile city continues to march forward along the patli of progressive i industry. It has reached our ears, I from a reliable source, that we are soon to have a Furniture and Coffin Factory. It is to be built entirely with home capital, which is very Gratifying. Of course it is well to have these improvements, but it is uiucli better to see boine money go into them. It is evidence to the outside world that we have faith in our town. Then too it is good to have our own peop'e "coining" the money if there is any to be "coined." We had occasion, a few issues previous, to refer to the manifest prosperity of Datesburg. In that article we urged that there be a movement set on foot to build an Oil Mill and a Ware House. If any one lias acted on the suggestion, we liavn't heard of it as yet, but we hope to hear something oi it in tlie near future. If there is no money to be made in the Oil Mill business, we would like to have it explain- ! ed to us why it is, 'bat the VirginiaCarolina Chemical Co. is buying up mills of this kind all over the State, i paying large prices for them There , is something in it some-where, or else 1 llirse experienced business men would ( not be investing their money.
