I There are divorce laws of all varicI

in that State, from marrying again in
a year's tiuie. The purpose of '.lie law,
probably, is to muke them take time
to think before taking another rash

We desire our correspondent* to

has evercotae under 'uU,' observation.
It treats of the inanT^^'Jvanceinents

the time it will take to peruse it. For
this piece of work, The Slate certainly
deserves credit and commands the

The election is over and we have no
fault to liiul with the choice mail * by
tin* voters of Huteshurg in selecting
tlieir oliicers for the etisueing term.
They are all, so far as our knowledge
extends. high-minded gentlemen,
qualified to till satisfactory the ollice
tlie}' have been elected to. Tliiboweve",
we could have said, had others,
who were in the race for the dillerent
ollices, been elected. We can say with
(insistency that there were in the
race nie'i who were not elected, who
could have been well intrusted with
the charge of municipal alfairs, in no
wise to their detriment. We congrat-I
ulntc the city in its selection, and we
further congratulate litem on having
sui li a lot of good men from whom to
select tlieir c tlieers. If it l?, at all
election?, as i; was at the last one, only
good men in the race, we will never
have any ftnrof the results.

We ii.t"iid n liking miiii.i improve- '
metits on The Advoeale during the
present inonth, provided ?re mi' colli- ^
plete the arrangements in time. In
order to ni.ik these eonteinplate.l
changes f -r the bettering of our paper .
it i) absolutely necessary to have the
money. Now for the advantage of our ^
eubfcrlbeis and for our advantage n< ^
well, because their gain is our gain,
we earnestly request that all, who can
will settle up with us as soon as possible.
We intend introducing in our columns
au interesting serial story,
which is to be followed by others cf its <
kind. '
It is our endeavor to give to the pub
lie the best possible paper for the least
possible money. There is now on our
subscription list over twelve hundred
names and we hope to increase that
number, within the next month or so,
to fifteen hundred or more. Lend us
your aid iu this matter and we will
guarantee to give you a paper the peer
of any m the State, at the pr?ce. (
Our Utile city continues to march
forward along the patli of progressive i
industry. It has reached our ears, I
from a reliable source, that we are
soon to have a Furniture and Coffin
Factory. It is to be built entirely
with home capital, which is very Gratifying.
Of course it is well to have
these improvements, but it is uiucli
better to see boine money go into them.
It is evidence to the outside world
that we have faith in our town. Then
too it is good to have our own peop'e
"coining" the money if there is any
to be "coined."
We had occasion, a few issues previous,
to refer to the manifest prosperity
of Datesburg. In that article
we urged that there be a movement set
on foot to build an Oil Mill and a Ware
House. If any one lias acted on the
suggestion, we liavn't heard of it as
yet, but we hope to hear something oi
it in tlie near future. If there is no
money to be made in the Oil Mill business,
we would like to have it explain- !
ed to us why it is, 'bat the VirginiaCarolina
Chemical Co. is buying up
mills of this kind all over the State, i
paying large prices for them There ,
is something in it some-where, or else 1
llirse experienced business men would (
not be investing their money. It is 1
. ?iiii|>ly a matter of whether or no we i
are going to sit with our hands folded 1
and seivotlier people come in our midst i
and make the money we could make '
oil i selves. I
